Poll: Mexicans Say U.S. is Racist

A new poll on Mexican attitudes towards the U.S. debate on illegal immigration has found that a large plurality of those surveyed say Americans who favor tighter border security are "racist."

The survey, co-sponsored by the Dallas Morning New and Mexico's El Universal newspaper, found that the largest segment of respondents - 43 percent - cited racism as the chief reason that Americans oppose illegal immigration.

A much smaller number - 16 percent - said U.S. citizens are most concerned about law enforcement. Just 14 percent think Americans are not racist, but fear being overrun by foreign cultures.

"Yes, it's true about racism," said Gloria Vázquez Solache, 59, a Mexico City resident who was among those polled. "They humiliate our countrymen and even burn Mexican flags. Fear of a 'foreign culture' is nonsense."

The same poll found that 76 percent of Mexicans think that crossing into the U.S. illegally should not be a crime. 79 percent of Mexicans want illegals already in the US to be legalized.

First one to claim racism is racist.

He who hath first smelt it, hath surely dealt it.

"First one to claim racism is racist."

They say we're racist?

Hmmm, and what is exactly the translation for "La Raza" anyway?

And why, http://www.laraza.com/, is there really only one race?

And to show its fairness and lack of racism, Mexico plans to open its southern border to unmonitored entry by Indians and other Central Americans! And to allow Yanqui gringos to purchase Mexican property! /sarc

Whites rolled over and played dead whenever another ethnic group accused whites of racism. Since the way to cower and paralyze the WASPs in the US has already been laid out, it makes logical sense that the Mexicans would go the same route.

Wish we had leadership in the US like this:

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Theodore Roosevelt 1907

I come from a lily-white NW Indiana suburb of Chicago. I worked in a steel mill as a kid. It was a *real* eye-opener that the black guys talked racist crap about the Mexicans and 'Ricans, and the Mexicans and 'Ricans talked racist crap about the black guys. Whaddya think the Black guys and Mexicans and 'Ricans had to say about us Whiteys when we weren't around?

Calling somebody a racist is a convenient way to shut down discussion for some people.

I would like to see Repubs get out front on this issue, rather than hiding when the "r" word is thrown about. Sadly, these charges always go unanswered, and these people are being manipulated by their so-called leaders. The DNC is trying to turn this into a political boon by branding Repubs with the anti-hispanic label. Anyone who has paid any attention to Bush knows that is vicious claptrap, but it goes unanswered.

We admit a million legal immigrants each year, year in and year out. A country that is afraid of foreigners doesn't admit a million legal newcomers. Of that million, 200,000 are Mexicans, which is statistically our favorite country of origin for immigrants. No other country comes close.

The people who throw around the "r" word never talk numbers. If you ask them how many we ought to allow in legally, you would probably discover that they have no idea that we allow a million people in legally year in and year out. A country of xenophobes doesn't do that.

Immigration policy should always serve the interests of citizens. It should not be used to manipulate voting patterns, wage rates, or demographics. We have never discussed publicly what the right number is or ought to be, we've never even discussed how we ought to arrive at that number. Is a million the right number? Not enough? 5 times the right number? We never discuss it, and all we are doing now is to shut down any hope of a discussion by replacing information with epithets.

This is DNC troublemaking, spread by DNC media organs, but Repub cowardice makes it possible.

And we're to give a rat's a$$?

I would say the real racism can be found in the term La Raza.

The survey, co-sponsored by the Dallas Morning New and Mexico's El Universal newspaper, found that the largest segment of respondents - 43 percent - cited racism as the chief reason that Americans oppose illegal immigration.

And what is the reason Mexicans oppose illegal immigration so much that there a law against it. Mexico is far more stringent than those of the USA. If we were as raciest as Mexico we wouldn't allow non-citizens (legal or non-legal) to have businesses, own real property or demonstrate for their rights. There would be no illegal Mexicans and no money home if we were as raciest as Mexico.

How dare they berate us for wanting our laws obeyed.

The USA is the least raciest country in the world. Mexico should solve their own racial problems.
