CIA fires source of leaks for prize-winning stories
The Seattle Times ^ | April 22, 2006 | Associate Press & Washington Post

WASHINGTON — The CIA has fired a senior officer for leaking classified information to the media, including material for Pulitzer Prize-winning stories in The Washington Post that said the agency maintained a secret network of prisons overseas for high-ranking terrorism suspects.

The termination, announced Friday, marks the latest in a series of high-profile crackdowns on spy agency and Bush administration officials accused of unauthorized disclosures of classified information.

The CIA would not identify the fired officer, citing Privacy Act protections.

But current and former intelligence officials identified her as Mary McCarthy, a former White House aide who until this week held a senior position in the CIA's Inspector General's Office.

Good morning.
"This confirms she was working on investigations....then feeding classified info to the MSM and undoubtedly, the Democrat Party."

I wonder if she and Mrs. Little Joey Wilson are quilting buddies.

She was "special assistant to the president and senior director for intelligence programs at the White House during the Clinton administration," which makes her just about as high ranking an official as Alger Hiss, the disgraced Soviet spy, was in the Roosevelt administration. She's got to know a lot more and have been involved in a lot more espionage than has been discovered so far. Indeed, I'd hazard the guess that she might have been the leader of a whole cabal of traitorous Clintonoids perpetrating espionage at the CIA, and doing it with the knowledge and support of the Witch.

Now comes the $64,000,000 question: Will the Bush administration fully prosecute this woman to the maximum extent of the law, get her convicted, and force her to reveal all she really knows?? I have a sick, sinking feeling the administration might not do that given the Bushes' unnaturally friendly relationship with the Clintons and the fact that the administration has steadfastly refused to so prosecute other Clinton felons, like Sandy Burglar, and the administration's ongoing failure to go after the Witch over the Peter Paul fund raising scandal. Hence, we must all put as much pressure as humanly possible on the administration, our Congress critters, and our Senators to keep the administration from dropping this ball. The 2006 and 2008 elections could well be at stake depending on how this investigation goes.

Trick is to clench your anal sphincter muscle during the control question (you'll be known as a "screamer") and everything answer you give thereafter will be interpreted as being the truth.

Oh, I don't know- I'll bet there are some guys down at the gay bar who couldn't tighten their anal sphincter to save their life- and they may very well be known as 'screamers'.

Notice also, the Junk Media STILL has not admitted they award a Pulitzer for a fraudulent story with NO a shred of reality in it. Gee were we NOT told the reason we could not trust bloggers was because they did not have the same "rigorous" standards as the Junk Media. What does this make, 2 dozed lies told by the Establishment Media in just the last 2. 5 years?

It's not just that the prisons were secret, they were also "underground".

This was in the plot of a "24" season ~ however the FOX put the secret underground prison in a public park in Los Angeles, not Europe.

The CIA guys weren't even terribly original ~ amazingly this Mary McCarthy seems to not be a "24" fan ~ more a librarian/spy/political activist sort of person than a "spook".

More recently there's the story about the Iranian atom bomb(s). That one came out of "24" also!

At one point President Palmer's secret plan to deal with this Iraian bomb was to nuke somewhere in the Middle-East. Jack Bauer talked him out of it by torturing Marwan's kid.

Roughly that sort of story.

Now I'm wondering who else is going to be "outed" at the CIA and in the press.

Hey, does the fansite for "24" carry a complete brief on each season's stories?

The EU announced Friday that they could find no evidence to sustain the accusations that the CIA ran "Secret Prisons" in Europe. So while elements of the story may have elements of truth in it, the story as a whole, and the uproars based on the story, are fraudulent.

It is technically illegal for anyone to publish classified information. The Dems are pushing very hard for a "shield
law" for whistleblowers and reporters who release such information.

I wonder if she had been conspiring with Larry Johnson and the VIPS?

"Can someone tell me if she is still eligible for a Federal retirement, if convicted? if not convicted?"

Don't know. Government employees are "relieved of their jobs" so rarely, this may be a precedent setting occasion.

She seems to be an appointee and would be under different rules than civil servants.

LOL, too funny. Life imitating art, imitating life...

At least someone has a sense of humour and is using it to good advantage. This story on McCarthy has been highly entertaining, btw.

If the only thing this ol'gal did was pass on the "secret underground prison" story, since it was a total fabrication (taken right ouf "24"), all that will happen is she gets fired.

If there are other stories with a firmer foundation in reality she'll be prosecuted!

But Andrea Mitchell says that morale is "plummeting at the CIA" to historical lows.

Andrea Mitchell is Barbra Streisand without the peyote.

This week, Priest won the Pulitzer Prize for beat reporting for articles about the agency, including one that revealed the existence of secret CIA-run prisons in Eastern Europe and elsewhere.

A story that an EU investigation has found to be without fact. She also receives the 2006 Duranty/Snow award for accuracy in reporting.
