Mary McCarthy, a CIA officer,is currently a visiting fellow at The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Prior to joining CSIS in August 2001, Mary O. McCarthy was a senior policy adviser to the CIA's deputy director for science and technology. Until July 2001, she served as special assistant to the president and senior director for intelligence programs on the National Security Council (NSC) Staff, under both Presidents Clinton and Bush. From 1991 until her appointment to the NSC, McCarthy served on the National Intelligence Council. She began her government service as an analyst, then manager, in CIA's Directorate of Intelligence, holding positions in both African and Latin American analysis. From 1979 to 1984 she was employed by BERI, S.A., conducting financial, operational, and political risk assessments for multinational companies and banks. Previously she had taught at the University of Minnesota and was director of the Social Science Data Archive at Yale University. She is the author of Social Change and the Growth of British Power in the Gold Coast (University Press of America, 1983). McCarthy has a B.A. and M.A. in history from Michigan State University, an M.A. in library science from the University of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Minnesota.

Reminds me of a thought lurking at the back of my mind ~ when Libby's prosecutor, Fitzgerald, was wandering about asking the neighbors if they knew where Valerie Plame Wilson worked, was this, parhaps, the neighborhood?

Seems to me the leftwingnuts would want to have protection in depth so they'd put their principals in deep cover with friendly neighbors.

So, how far away do the Wilson's live anyway?

Supposedly, the Wilsons live in Georgetown, and the McCarthys live in Bethesda, Maryland. I've only been to DC once, for the March for Justice, so I have no idea how far apart they are. It'd be interesting to find out who their neighbors are too...a little digging might turn up something...or someone. :)

Bethesda is one of those area/neighborhoods that is part in DC and part in adjacent Maryland.

You have such things as the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda Naval Hospital, etc. up there, so they attract a certain crowd.

The rich people live in Georgetown (in DC) or out in Potomac MD (further to the Northwest in MD).

Maryland has a zoning/development plan called "Wedges and Corridors". The "Wedges" are supposed to be semirural with parks and farms. The "Corridors" are where there are houses and places of employment.

The "area" we are talking about where all these people live is probably 15 miles long, North to South, and 5 miles wide.

I think Rush had it exactly right when he called them a 'shadow government' operating within the CIA and State department. Wayne Simmons, a former CIA operator and FNC commentator, has been saying for years now that there is a group of people in the intelligence community who are working to destroy the President and his foreign policy. I think we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg.

But any public or private official who lends their name to the defense of McCarthy or Joe Wilson is very likely to be part of the cabal and should be put on the list of conspirators. You don't publicly defend people against charges which you have no knowledge of (unless you are either part of their crowd or you know something about it that you shouldn't).
