Click for our National Anthem! (remove your caps please!) Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there. O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep, Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes, What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream: 'T is the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand, Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation; Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us as a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause is just, And this be our motto: "In God is our trust" And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

ANZAC DAY! Celebrating our Aussie and Kiwi Allies! Thank you!!
ANZAC Day is 25 April, and is the Holiest of Holy days in Australia and New Zealand. It commemorates the heroic landings at Gallipoli, Turkey (not far from ancient Troy), of the Australia New Zealand Army Corps during World War I, and the subsequent bloodbath where Australians, Kiwis and (surprisingly) our Turkish foe became as Brothers.
The great Turkish General and Statesman Mustafa Kemal Ataturk made Reconciliation possible between former enemies with his generous, heartfelt and poetic words after the war:
"Those heroes that shed their blood And lost their lives... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore, rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies And the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side, Here in this country of ours. You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries... Wipe away your tears. Your sons are now lying in our bosom And are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land, they have Become our sons as well."
|
|
To a Kiwi and an Aussie, ANZAC Day is like July 4, Memorial Day and Veteran's Day all rolled into one, and then celebrated on December 7 Pearl Harbor Day -- if that makes any sense. Huge emotion.
There's some rollicking good Aussie music, and in New Zealand we have some good tunes as well (check out Goldenhorse, Shihad, Crowded House...) Dunno about the Turks, haven't checked recently.
My Guardian Angel troop will post up for ANZAC Day either at Waikumite Memorial, Glen Eden or at Piha Beach -- depends on what the RSA (Returned Serviceman's Association) want. There we will help provide crowd control and first aid if needed. Thank you to DieHard The Hunter for bringing this to our attention!! For selections of Aussie and Kiwi musicians, please look on the thread!!
Thank you!

Hiys Ma!
*HUG*
The send off was a huge success!
I got up at 4:30, made some coffee..
I didnt drink it, I just threw it in my eyes!
Fast shower and off I went...
AS the sun began to rise, there was early morning mist..
and out of the mist (as I was driving to Augusta) was a bald eagle..
I then snapped on the radio, and they were playing the Star Spangled Banner..it was so neat...
We met at the Armory and laid out our plans, gathered Toll money, and so on..
I was aked to take Moxie and ride "Tailgunner"..
The PGR have dubbed me with that as my "ride handle"!
A "varsity tunnel" was made for the Soldiers to walk through as they got off the buses to be with their families before leaving..
The tunnel was two lines of flag bearers holding the Flags up high, tips touching, for the Soldiers to walk under as they came inside.
As we left, The State Police were in front of the buses..
The motorcycles in a double row behind them, and a line of vehicles, and me "Tailgunner, bringing up the rear.
At the jetport, the Soldiers were greeted by us all waving flags and cheering, they were so pleased..
We were not allowed past the Security gates..
but as they got on the plane, they turned waved and saluted us, and took pictures of us.
That was very humbling..
AS the plane taxied down the runway and lifted into the air...alot of people began to cry, including me..
Before I knew what was happening, I was swept up and hugged by one of the PGR guys...he was crying too...
We then took a group photo and headed home..
I DO have pictures, but I am running on 4 hours of sleep, and need to nap before work..
I will post them tonight, okay?
Hugs alla round!
