Just breaking on Fox...

No details, but the agent was caught dead to rights leaking....

Update: CIA Officer Fired for Leaking Classified Info to Media

WASHINGTON — A CIA officer has been relieved of his duty after being caught leaking classified information to the media.

CIA officials will not reveal the officer's name, assignment, or the information that was leaked. The firing is a highly unusual move, although there has been an ongoing investigation into leaks in the CIA.

One official called this a "damaging leak" that deals with operational information and said the fired officer "knowingly and willfully" leaked the information to the media and "was caught."

Onyx, Like I post at 351 to jrooney It makes one wonder if this recently fired CIA person was involved in anyway in the referral of the Plame case to Fitz. It sounds like he/she had the access. HMMMMMMM

Exactly! Though this ought to cause her distress and pangs of conscience...it won't- she has none.

I am beginning to think the secret prisons story was a "smoke'em out" and the guy rolled on other issues.

Bill Gertz said today on CSPAN with Brian Lamb, that he does not publish classified information, but public info.

Not my original thought, but I have been purusing other sites, and there is some discussion that MAYBE, just MAYBE, this is the guy/gal who turned over the Plame "CIA leak" item to DOJ. Now wouldn't that just be a hoot and a half. This character recommended DOJ investigate the Plame Game, and he did so at the behest of his/her media sources? HA! I know its far fetched (yes, I like the conspiracy theories)....but its fun to speculate.

"Since this CIA agent caught today was from the office that investigated leaks, and he/she has admitted guilt, look for them to turn on others quickly and sing like a canary because they are looking at a very long in in Leavenworth!"

Hope this is only the beginning of a big house-cleaning that we've all been tired of waiting for!!! A couple of reports have referred to "dozens" of current leak investigations - that would be too sweet (if they pan out). I'd be very happy if Pflamegate finally gets unravelled with co-conspirators of Joe and Valerie being "frog marched".....

Whole heartedly agree. Makes perfect sense, plus it fits.

Lord knows we need a break and this just could be "it."

You know there's going to be a "counterattack". My guess would be that the media will ask, "Is Bush against whistleblowing?"

Just for a laugh:

WHERE'S FITZ? [Byron York]

A left-wing website, citing "sources close" to the CIA leak investigation, reports that:

Just as the news broke Wednesday about Scott McClellan resigning as White House press secretary and Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove shedding some of his policy duties, Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald met with the grand jury hearing evidence in the CIA leak case and introduced additional evidence against Rove, attorneys and other US officials close to the investigation said. The grand jury session in federal court in Washington, DC, sources close to the case said, was the first time this year that Fitzgerald told the jurors that he would soon present them with a list of criminal charges he intends to file against Rove in hopes of having the grand jury return a multi-count indictment against Rove.

The only problem, according to, well, sources knowledgeable about the investigation, is that Fitzgerald was in Chicago on Wednesday.

He has been pushing for this since the Pulitzer prizes were announced. Mostly for the journalists to be subpoenaed, but for the leaker(s) to be caught too.
