About 200 Muslim women who have memberships to the Fitness USA chain of athletic clubs have signed a petition asking the gyms to honor what they say was a promise to provide separate exercise times for women and men.

Arrwa Mogalli, 28, of Dearborn, said she bought a $1,465 lifetime membership after being promised that a Lincoln Park facility would be open only to women on certain days.

The gym in this Detroit suburb opened a new part of the center this month to both sexes every day.

"I felt like all the money I just spent ... has gone to waste," Mogalli said.

Muslims won't be satisfied until we are under Sharia and a mosque on every corner. Yet we welcome them in our country while screaming about Mexicans. I don't get it.

Noone is insisting gyms be segregated... if the company promised a service, took peoples money, and didnt deliver, they gotta pay up!

If the company promised them, the Muslim women have a strong case. We have to find out the nature and legitimacy of the promise (or if there was a promise at all) before we can meaningfully decide who is right here.

There are several women-only gyms across the USA also (Curves is one of them) which tend to have a clientele of overweight women and unusually goodlooking women. Seems that the former are very self conscious in a mixed sex gym and the latter tend to attract so much attention they like an all-women gym so they can do their workout and get out without a dozen guys coming on to them.

Works very well.

Give the woman her money back and ask her to leave. Better yet, ask her to tell her Mullah to build a fitness center under their mosque.

Muslims really do have the "offended" thing down cold.

It is a contract dispute, and not much else. Looks like they DO provide women-only days for the facility, but have newly added some new facility (?) that doesn't have that rule.

Either the new building (or whatever it is) is covered by the contract or it isn't. Let the lawyers figure it out, but it shouldn't be difficult.

I have seen better proof for that.

We have a mixed sauna in the gym - girls asked for some seperate hours - voila they got it. No big deal.

Now if some girls want to have a non-mixed gym why shouldn't they ask for it ? What if non muslim girls asked ? (I think actually they may have but that didn't fit in this article somehow)

This is a bad example for an all negative attitude towards muslims desperatly seeking for facts.

BTW I don't think we need muslims to have our rights cut at every corner - look on what's up with alcohol and tobacco.

OK, I take that back. It is not a contract dispute; instead, it sounds like Bait-and-Switch. They were promised one thing to get the money, then given something else.

This is not a Muslims against the world issue here, but a case of an unscrupulous sales person. We have several gyms around town, even in a city as small as ours. Most offer men only and women only workout times, which are usually patronized by people too embarrassed to let the opposite sex see them in their current state.

Maybe the lady should ask for her money back and exercise at home. I just don't understand why the general public should have to accomodate folks like this and the smoking nazis. If you don't like a legal behavior that is taking place at a venue, then don't go there.
