Yesterday China's president Hu Jintal was heckled by someone who managed to sneak into the press gallery covering a White House event. This is simply not allowed in China. In fact, when the video of Hu's remarks at the White House were shown in China the part involving the heckler was blacked out. We now learn that after the incident President Bush apologized to Hu. Apologized? For what? Did Bush apologize because someone managed to slip by White House security? If so ... probably appropriate. On the other hand, if Bush apologized because someone actually heckled the Chinese president, not good. This was a good chance for a lesson, not an apology. How about "Glorioski, President Hu, I'm do apologize that we didn't prevent that woman from slipping into our press gallery. But, you know, things are somewhat different here in the United States than they might be elsewhere. Here the leaders are directly responsible to the people, and the people have the freedom to express their thoughts, good thoughts or bad thoughts, to their leaders without fear of retribution or censorship. You ought to try it sometime."
April 21, 2006 -- President Bush used some strong-arm diplomacy yesterday as he attempted to stop visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao from stepping off the stage during an arrival ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House.
Rush Limbaugh had a great take on this yesterday:

I would like an admittance that security is lax -- or else how could a heckler get into the area reserved for the Press Corps?
We, the American people, need an explanation. This is the worst security breach ever. Suicide bombers will see this and think they can get near our government leaders, because of poor security.
She had a press pass. She was representing a Chinese language newspaper. The newspaper claims they had no idea she was planning this There was no "security breach".
I think it's a good thing when leaders are subject to verbal harrassment form the people.
I think you miss the point. Apoligize for the security breach, but not the right of people to speak against leaders. Guest or no guest, he is a tyrant. The very anithesis of the nature of our country. I have no problem with him getting heckled.

Alot of our people died for that right. Yes, escourt her out so they may continue, but NO charges what so ever against her. Just turn her loose and never allow her back in with a press pass.
She was an accredited member of the press corps. Imagine that. Blame the media.
BTW, interesting subject for your indignation, given your tag line. Or is it only "progressives" who are allowed to offend?
At least someone had to balls to stand up and tell hi what a turd he is. HOw oppressive his regeim is.
GOD knows Mr. Bush didn't.
What the hell was this pow wow for anyway? Did any thing get done about the trade imbalance? The suppression in China? The bulying of Taiwan by the chi-coms? Etc. Etc. or was it just for local consumption i china to show how its supreme leader is on par with the great U,S,?
The only security threat she posed was to Hu's complacency that he can do whatever he wants to his citizens behind the Bamboo curtain and not face public approbation for it.
CNN cut the hecking part in it's international feed. So much for their interest in the truth!
Now, I agree with you!
"Guest or no guest, he is a tyrant. The very anithesis of the nature of our country."
And your ISP will give up records of your IP address and who you are. Your phone will be tapped, and you'll be audited. The FBI will confiscate your PC and search it for any illegal material. And when you're back online, Microsoft will legally take your personal information.
Eventually, your local leaders will decide to take your home for the "public good".
Oh, wait... we're not like that.
I don't think anyone thinks Bush was defending human rights abuses.
The written word is the only way I can enjoy Neal anymore. He has more APM (ahhh's-per-minute) than Ted Turner.
Yes the Chinese communists are experts at treating people the way they wish to be treated/sarc.
We call it an "apology". They call it a "kowtow".
I understand that she had a Temp. press pass on. She was an invited guest of someone.
Much like Cindy Sheeedevil at the State of the Union.
I can't listen to talk radio and work at the same time so I only read his webpage as well.
