President George W. Bush is likely to get a large welcome from the county's highly vocal anti-illegal immigration activists when he comes to Irvine on Monday morning to pitch his immigration plan.

It's The Borders, Stupid
I'm not sure they will understand.
"I'm not sure they will understand."
No, I don't think they will.
Possibly not even after they've lost.
A demonstration for immigration reform. Respectful, though.
Yes, I saw that on post #43 and responded at #47.
I`m sure Howard Dean will pay for the T shirt, I know my grandkids will.
I forgot the code, what does OBL stand for?
I agree, first we must close the border.

They're not doing it now.
If they're a teenager? Sure.
This country has slave labor laws.
I don't see how the question is relevent to those who are employed with decent paying jobs.
It's very relevant, you're just making excuses. The able-bodied folks that sleep 'til noon, then spend the rest of the day sitting on their duff in front of the TV set collecting welfare are just plumb irresponsible and lazy. What makes you think they'll go out and pluck strawberries or cabbage off a vine for 50 cents an hour? They get more from Uncle Sugar doing nothing. Get rid of the loopholes in the welfare system, and maybe these lazy bums would find some other means of earning their way through life. It's not just illegals cheating the system. People born in this country are cheating out the responsible, hard working, taxpaying Americans.

Would you add me to your ping list?
It's talking me awhile but I'd like to become more active with MM, sending in my pledge today and hope to see off the caravan.
Whether you agree with the President or not, it takes guts to head out there to confront it directly.
LOL. I agree with you.
I'm thinking about starting to cross reference "there are no jobs Americans won't do" threads with "All we have are burger flipping jobs" threads.
Big Sky, I know you're just indulging in a bit of hyperbole, but just for the record, these ag workers make a pretty damn good buck. Probably 2 or three times what the loafers are picking up (not counting crack sales, of course.) Lot of'em have no trouble picking up 35-40K per season!
Dirty Little Secret: Lots of pickers manage to go on welfare when they're not picking. That's what keeps'em here through the winter. You would also be amazed at how many manage to buy property!
Here's another dirty little secret. The ones that I'm aware of that plant and pick sugarbeets during the summer/fall in the Yellowstone and Missouri River Valley here in Montana and potatoes in Idaho, migrate south to pick other crops during the winter months. That's why they're called migrant or seasonal workers.
Some of these ag workers who are legal do pretty much the same thing. I know of this one family farm operation based not far from me, that goes as far south as Texas in the early spring to harvest grain, and they're back here in Montana to harvest their own crop in the early fall, moving northward through Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, and southern Montana, harvesting everything from wheat to corn. That's all they do for 8 months out of the year. Harvest.
Uh, Bush said those very words. How does repeating Bush's own statements insult him?
Senator Kyl, who is against the Kennedy/McCain bill to begin with, even realizes that deportation is impractical.
You will find a few more of my standardized posts on this subject here on the first page of JustPiper's outstanding thread "Stunning facts about the proposed immigration bill."
