The majority of societies in the world regard homosexuality as something to keep oppressed. It's a natural human response to it. Muslim countries, Eastern European countries, Russia, China, the Far East... all regard homosexuality in a negative way, and that's part of their culture. It's only Western democratic nations that have this philosophy that all people should be treated equally, in all aspects of their lives.
It's not about democracy, but natural human gut reaction and common sense.
