There was a crackdown Wednesday and dozens of illegal immigrants were arrested.
Many of those same immigrants were released just hours later
It was the last thing they, and their families, expected.
"They are not criminals. All they're here for is to work for their family," said Mariz Gomez.
And that's what they were doing making wooden pallets at two different locations when federal agents swooped in and took nearly 70 suspected undocumented workers to this federal detention center in north Houston.
"Just for them to come in here and to just throw them back to where they go. That's not right for them," said Gomez.
Families 11 News spoke with feared the men mostly from Central American countries would be deported.
But that was hardly the case.
Just five hours later Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents began releasing the undocumented workers.
"I was surprised by the quick release," said a man who asked that his face not be shown. Several others made the same request.
It is not clear why these immigrants were released so quickly but workers say it may be because the 950-bed facility was severely overcrowded.
The workers say they were told the facilities were full. Sources inside the facility say the same thing and that agents have been ordered to release immigrants as soon as possible.
Some of the workers say there were other problems Wednesday.
They said computers went down and agents had to scribble information, in one case, failing to write in a court date altogether.
The men we spoke with promised to show up for their immigration hearings, still finding it hard to believe they were released so soon.
If they don't have a green card, a legal U.S. ID, or an American birth certificate, they can't defend their right to be here. This is an invasion by a foreign nation, and we do have laws - as well as government oaths - to protest us from it. This is a military matter.
I know the reason for the catch-and-release of these illegals. Their adipose fins weren't clipped which meant they were 'native illegal immigrants' and had to be released. I sure hope INS didn't handle them to rough or else the game department is gonna place some serious hurt on them.
You're right, they can't defend themselves but under our laws, they don't have to but law enforcement better have the evidence that they committed a crime and in order to deport them law enforcement better prove also that they're here illegally.
The `exclusionary rule' applies to illegal aliens as well as citizens, you are keerect, sir.
Even foreign nationals who sneak across our border with the express assistance of their government, knowingly breaking our laws are entitled to the protection of our laws.

It's not a Red Herring to point out difficulties within the legal system. In this case it may have been a computer lame excuse but as for overcrowding, in the state of Texas it's illegal to have overcrowded jails even for a minute. About 10 years ago the Texas SC literally went cell to cell and pointed out who to release. I don't agree with the way the law is being used in this illegal immigrant issue but I'm not going to support suspending some legal standards because of something I don't like. Congress can make some minor legal changes and we won't have a "catch and release" like failure to provide ID can result in denied bond until such positive ID is made, simple. Another one is if a deportation order is affirmed by a judge then no further entry into the US will be allowed, even for visits. Make a child of two illegal immigrants is born in the US the parents will have to make a choice, take the child with them back to where ever or put up for adoption at a state agency.

I just called Tancredo's office and told them about this.
Clearly if you are here in the US illegally (at least if you're from south of our border), most of our laws don't apply to you in the same way the apply to citizens. I know it's weird, but this appears to be the case. We have fallen down the rabbit hole with Alice.

There is another thread about this. They have to sign a document waiving a hearing in order to be deported. Otherwise, there has to be a due process hearing and if there is no place to store them, you have to let them go.
There is nothing in that paragraph outrageous. They have to have due process because the law is paramount. If there is no place to put them pending due process, you have to let them go.
They promise to return for their hearing. If they don't, they will have committed a second crime and if caught again, they are in a different category and do not get released.
About the most you can do is build new housing facilities, which takes time and money. Otherwise, you catch, process, schedule for hearing, incarcerate if there is room, or release if there is not.
The employers arrested are not released. That part of this is the best of all the publicity.
