I speak regularly with dedicated men and women who work for the Department of Homeland Security, and especially agents from across the country who work for the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
I can tell you based on my reporting over the last five years that the Bush administration's belated efforts to look tough on immigration enforcement at worksites amount to a cynical, politically timed effort to salvage the White House's guest worker program dreams and schemes. I'm referring to this story linked prominently today on Drudge and spread elsewhere:

So then, just for the record...
You all support and agree with Bush's border enforcement record. Right?
C'mon... Come right out and say it. You think this is good.
That you got slapped by having your post pulled?
I'm doing the happy dance as we speak.
.....Transparently so. It makes the blood boil.....
Balderdash..... if the raid had been made a year earlier it would have been condemned for being so harsh on the poor illegals. Only after the body politic was in full hue and cry coudld such a raid with resulting prosecutions be possible.
There is nothing wrong with political timing. As a matter of fact timing is essential to effective governance. You asked for it, in fact demanded it, and now you got it.
Why Bash Bush for doing something, politically motivated or not?
You didn't answer my question.
You think the guy who is keeping you safe (that's right, SAFE!) should be impeached because you're not happy with the slow progress on your pet issue?
And then you wonder why some of us don't take you seriously...
"You all support and agree with Bush's border enforcement record. Right?
"
No, I do not support it. I believe that much more should be done to get illegals out of the country, and I have said so many times.
However, calls for the impeachment of our President are unwarranted and defeatist. Rather, you should call for him to redouble the efforts to control the border.
I think this particular effort is more of a publicity stunt than anything else. On the other hand, if enough people praise the ICE's action, rather than calling for President Bush's head on a platter, we just might get more action.
You'll make few friends here with your "Impeach Bush" nonsense.
"Wether you like it or not, this is a major issue."
It is, indeed. I'm not objecting to Malkin's column. I'm objecting to the poster's call for impeachment of the President.
"Only after the body politic was in full hue and cry coudld such a raid with resulting prosecutions be possible. "
Soo then your claim is that Bush's entire open borders policy so far has been just a ruse to allow this single raid of 100 illegals?
Man, how good was that Kool Aid?
Hey, BTW... Love that tag line:

Sound to me like the desperate hopes of someone who refuses to believe the events as they unfold.
Enjoy your Kool Aid.

Slowly you turn...step by step...inch by inch, you creep up on getting tossed.
It is possible to disagree with President Bush's policies in one area without calling for his impeachment. You're on dangerous ground, Pessimist.
You didn't answer my question. Are you in favor of not enforcing the laws of our nation with regards to illegal immigration?
If you are, just say so.
I don't think it matters. I noticed this morning that ACORN is involved in these rallies. ACORN is the group that conducts all those (Dem-sponsored) "non partisan" voter registration drives. They've been caught in many fraud schemes.
(Google: "ACORN voter registration fraud")
Now they're going to do voter registration drives among the illegals. What's to stop their registering non-citizens? Nothing. Most registrar's offices rely on the voter signing a sworn statement that he's elligible. That's it. So ACORN will register (perhaps millions of) new voters and the registrar offices will just go along.
Once they're registered to vote, it won't matter what happens in the Senate or with Bush. The Dems will have surrepticously acheived their true goal.
Sorry, I didn't see you're response befofe my last comment.
"You didn't answer my question. Are you in favor of not enforcing the laws of our nation with regards to illegal immigration?
"
I did answer your question. I'll speak more slowly, so you'll understand me:
I...want...all...illegals...deported.
How's that? That's what I want. What you appear to want is the impeachment of our President because you don't like the way he's handled the illegal immigrant issue. I have many priorities. Illegals are just one of them.
You didn't answer my question.

They're the words of Michael Corleone to his crew on the night before he settled all family business by whacking the heads of the other four New York families.
Keep posting in favor of Bush's impeachment, and they'll seem very prescient.
