He was just...venting. Sure.

Hope he enjoys the scrutiny from the Secret Service.

...being immersed in studying for their upcoming finals, Buddhi’s attorney John Martin said he hopes his client will be released from jail...so he can return to studying.

Good Lord. I guess we want to make sure this little criminal passes his courses, huh?

He actually did his posting during the traditional New Year's Eve associated with his religion. Apparantly he is a Tamil. His religious affiliation IS his last name.

The politics with the Tamils, Sri Lanka, Southern India, and so forth are complex.

At the moment my thought is that he was drunk, or out of his mind on drugs. On the other hand, he had been a mathematician and became a physicist. Probably has some stupid idea the President is a minor god who can control the price of aluminum foil.

“What was allegedly said certainly is derogatory and may be inflammatory,” Martin said. “But there’s no real serious threat more than it was chat on the Web.”,

Isn't that kind of what they said about the 2 Columbine kids before they went berserk?

This guy shouldn't be returning to classes, he should be deported back to India. I believe he's demonstrated a clear lack of respect for our country and it's laws, or isn't that enough anymore?

"Vikram Buddhi allegedly posted the detailed and threatening messages on an online message board."

How stupid can you be?

Uh, Vikram pal, you have just stepped in a pile of holy cow relics. Threatening the President of the U.S. is called a Federal Offense. After ten years in the US of A, one would think that would have entered your Buddhist skull but perhaps 10+ in Federal prison will wise you up. Enjoy the brotherhood.

Martin said Buddhi’s actions should be covered by the First Amendment since Buddhi would have never actually carried out his threats.

Exactly what Cracker Jack box did this drone Martin find his law licence in? There's scores of nutballs in prison for making threats that they didn't have the capability to do.

What's Martin's next brilliant defence gambit? "Your Honor, my client did say he was going to whack the President, but he couldn't have done so because the Secret Service would have stopped him!"

Martin again: “What was allegedly said certainly is derogatory and may be inflammatory,” Martin said. “But there’s no real serious threat more than it was chat on the Web.”

Okay, saying like lawyers do "we'll accept that ad arguendo," what the dickens did Martin's buddy Buddhi actually say?

In the various messages posted, Buddhi urged the Web site’s readers to bomb the United States and for them to rape American and British women and mutilate them, according to court documents. Other messages called for the killing of all Republicans.

"See, Your Honor? He couldn't have killed all Republicans... he's a starving student, and that's about fifty million bullets. Even with a student discount ---"

I dunno what Buddhi is paying Martin, but he's wasting his rupees.

A better approach might be to argue that the defendant is merely hostile to women because as an engineering geek he can't get laid. That's probably closer to causation here. He came on to some blonde and she put him down...

Where he's going, there aren't any girls, poor fellow. Still, "good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement."
