The Rev. Jesse Jackson launched a get-out-the-vote campaign in New Orleans on Tuesday, appearing at the Guste public housing complex in the first stop of a three-city tour through the state to rally voters leading up to the city elections.
"We will vote in protest," Jackson said of the Saturday's mayoral election. "We will vote for the right of our families and our neighbors to return and rebuild this city."
Jackson, joined by community leaders, ministers and a few local politicians, said the shame of this state and country will be broadcast loud and clear if evacuees spread across the nation aren't included in the voting process.
"There are people that are completely locked out," of the election process, he said. "There are people who don't know there is an election. People who haven't gotten any information about who is running or where polling places are. And that is shameful."

They don't know there's an election. They don't know who's running. They don't know where to cast their ballot. Yet we want them to vote.
Makes a lot of sense to me. /sarcasm
I don't think there is any stopping what is going to happen in these elections, much as Jesse would like it to be, it's just not going to happen.
Funny, there's signs all over post offices (at least in Florida) telling 'em what to do.
No one in New Orleans cares what Jessie thinks. Notice few polticos showed up. What community leaders are these? This is all BS. New Orleans folks black, white, Dem ,Repub, Rich, Poor, doesn't matter want to vote now.
I bet there will be no protest if Chocolate Nagin wins. Suddenly, it will have been a just vote.
Memo to Jesse: You pimp for the entitlement rolls -- always have and probably always will. Your *people* have every right to return and rebuild. The only thing coming in between your *people* and the rebuilding of New Orleans is a hard day's work.
By the way, it's nice to see Jesse Jackson out trying to rally the voters, rather than stop the vote altogether!
NO does not need outside agitation. Those people have had more meetings and community activity in the last six months than in the last 60 years. let them vote.
