Say what you want about McLellan but I thought he was always gracious and polite. For people who like to conduct themselves in an adult manner, he was a good representative in that regard.
A gentleman who knew how to behave in public. I thought that during his tenure he was quite adept at giving the WH press corps enough rope to hang themselves. The public's view of the press declined while he was there.

And now the Presidents approval rating is dirt thanks in part to the PR effort that he was a big part of. That's not saying he is 100% at fault for the poll numbers, but his lack of testorne and putting the media verbally in their place as critical times no doubt compounded the problem.

True, but the public's view of Bush declined even more.

Your wisdom is applicable only if we want to remain on defense, and that strategy will spell disaster for the mid-terms.

Under normal circumstances, he would have been perfect for the job. However, the press went to war with the presidency, and Scott in the position was just totally unaware that war had been declared. The president's back was unguarded and he was constantly being stabbed in the back to the point where he is weakened almost terminally.

The WH has to have someone in that position who is smart and savy and who the press almost fears for the quick zingers that will be aimed back at their stupid questions. It takes someone who is actively thinking all the time about the WH position and how best to present it. It has to be someone the people like and enjoy watching so people will pay attention to the pressers just to watch whoever it is take down the press.

Scott is a sweeties, but he's not a war fighter and what is needed is a mental war fighter.

Agreed .. anyone who works in this admin. has to pass muster on the Boss's prerequisites: polite, NO sinking to the level of the mob, gracious, and mannerly .. even under the most rank cynicism and slimy attacks. This person represents the White House and the person who lives there, someone who exhibits his own good breeding in all his dealings.
