The NY Times confirms this story, though they just say Tony was talked to:

"Also on Tuesday, speculation increased that the White House was focusing on changing its press secretary, Scott McClellan. Officials have spoken with Tony Snow, a commentator for Fox News and a former speechwriter for the president's father, to see if he would be interested in the job, said two people with knowledge of the discussion who were granted anonymity so they could speak freely about a matter the White House did not want to be publicly known.

One of them said Mr. Snow had been contacted very recently about the job, and both said they did not believe Mr. Snow was the only person the White House was considering.

Republicans have been speculating about potential successors, including Rob Nichols, the former Treasury spokesman, and Victoria Clarke, the former Pentagon spokeswoman. Mr. McClellan has refused to comment about his plans."

A lefty site, Newshounds, had this to say about another FNC person:

"The Financial Times says that Dan Senor, a Fox News "contributor," is in the running to replace White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan. Senor is the former spokesperson for L. Paul Bremer and the "Coalition Provisional Authority" and ten days ago he married Campbell Brown, an up-and-coming reader at NBC."

They also say CNN reporter Suzanne Malveaux said today (Tuesday) the WH "reached out" to Snow about the job.

This is not something that was leaked by Gibson, apparently. It already was out there.

Wow...weird...

On FR we have speculated that Dan Senor might be in the running...and I was pushing for Tori Clark...but, I never even thought that they might ask Tony...

Mr. Snow, I am so pleased you're on FoxNews--it's a real pleasure to be able to relax and listen to some excellent commentary from you.

But if it is true that you've been approached by the White House--and I believe it is--I ask that you take the job. Please. You have unique personal qualifications that would be indispensable. You would not only benefit the President and his administration, you would actually benefit the country--all of us.

That's no reason to take it--you owe us nothing. But I am a little old lady who is politely asking.

Please, Mr. Snow, take the job.

Thanks for your consideration,

Judy

When I heard it on the John Gibson radio program I was just getting ready to get online to do some work and thought for sure FR would have more about the story. I was shocked when I did not see anything about it, so decided to post something to see what was up.

I am surprised it had not been posted yet since it apparently had been reported several times that day. Of course, I did not catch any news until later in the day.
