As usual, negative stories about Mother Sheehan are only to be found in the local papers. This one is from her erstwhile home town (for a few years, anyway) the Vacaville Reporter:
Sheehan Refuted
Director rebuts 'Peace Mom's' story
By Julie Kay/Staff Writer
A Vacaville funeral home owner took exception to "Peace Mom" Cindy Sheehan's allegation that his mortuary did not fulfill its duties after her son Casey was killed in Iraq in 2004.
In her blog last week, Sheehan wrote that the mortuary had refused to pay the cemetery as it was supposed to. Steve Nadeau, the mortuary's owner, said Monday that not only did he properly pay the cemetery, but that he subsidized the process with his own money.
Nadeau read Sheehan's comments in The Reporter Sunday, in a story about Sheehan's defense of her decision not to put a headstone on Casey's grave. Sheehan had described her choice at length in the same blog entry that mentioned Nadeau's Funeral Home.
The Reporter called Nadeau Friday and left a message at his office seeking his comments.
Nadeau returned the call and left a message saying he would be unavailable until Monday.
In an e-mail sent to The Reporter Sunday, Nadeau expressed hurt and disbelief at Sheehan's comments. He said that the amount of money the military gave the mortuary for Casey's funeral service and cemetery arrangements didn't even come close to covering the costs.
"Several kind citizens made donations," said Nadeau. "I absorbed the rest."
This was not the only way in which he went above and beyond his responsibilities following Casey's death, said Nadeau. He also provided a stretch limousine and a driver at his expense, he said, and invited the family to go to the airport with him so that he could accompany them. None of this was required, said Nadeau.
"Having known the Sheehan family for many years through St. Mary's Catholic Church where Ms. Sheehan had previously been the youth director, it was my desire to provide care and dignity to Casey and the family. I did this in every respect."
Nadeau also refuted Sheehan's statement that the mortuary finally paid the cemetery only after the family threatened to bring the story to the media.
"This never happened," said Nadeau. "I would stop by the family home as I do most families' homes and check with them on necessary needs, etc."
Nadeau said the military provided his mortuary $5,736 in funding to pay for the funeral service and cemetery arrangements. The funding came in May 2004, said Nadeau, and he paid the cemetery as soon as the costs had been totaled and the donations received.
In a phone call Monday, Sheehan stood by her allegations. Sheehan also said that Casey's grave site was now being handled by her soon-to-be ex-husband Patrick.
Patrick Sheehan said Monday that the small plaque currently marking Casey's grave is something all graves receive before a headstone is constructed. Casey's headstone is in the works, he said, and is being built by a local monument company.
Isn't it beautiful? The community and Mr. Nadeau covered much of Mother Sheehan's expenses, and she still has to trash them and lie about them.
Army Maj. Gen. Rodney Kobayashi presents the Purple Heart and Bronze Star to Cindy Sheehan Tuesday, April 13, 2004, during a funeral service for her son, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan 24, in Vacaville, Calif.
No, she isn't crazy.
Not much.
She seems to just say whatever pops into her head.
This is the same woman who still insists she never called terrorists "freedom fighters," even when it is on videotape.
Same with her lies about not sending an anti-Semitic email to Nightline. Even though I have posted her emails.
She doesn't believe the media will ever call her on her lies. And she is right about that, sadly.
$500,000. Wow.
Thanks for posting that. I suspected it was up there, but didn't know it was that much.
Thanks. Here is the article that Dr. Raoul was talking about:
THE DEFIANT WAR / When it began three years ago, few people could have anticipated that the combat in Iraq would last so long or that the enemy would become a stubborn and resilient insurgency / Cindy Sheehan's year of living famously

He probably could. There are some around Vacaville but it is up the family, I should think, and some want family buried near other family members. So I don't fault them for wanting to choose the cemetery. I do remember that when we purchased our cemetery plot, the agreement was directly with the cemetery rather than through the mortuary.
I happen to think that the money available to bury and honor Casey Sheehan was adequate or, as other posters have pointed out, other military families would have screamed foul. Cindy's blaming the mortuary for the lack of headstone is specious and self-serving. But I have to remember she's a saint now so we can't question her lack of caring for Casey (sarc off).
(...moonbat friends and stab them in the back too)
She won't have a chance to do it first...they will abandon HER first after they have milked this aberration for everything it worth.
THEN you will see her blubbering all over the media about how they treated her.
What goes around, comes around.
an excerpt from: A Markerless Grave in Vacaville
By Cindy Sheehan
I am so tired of the Rovian, heartless, and ignorant smear machine attacking me and my family at every turn of my back.
The latest abomination in their scrutiny of my life is the fact that Casey has no "tombstone." As if it was anybodys business but Caseys family. I am sure every last person who has a problem with this has buried a child and they know what we are going through.
I am being smeared because I have a new car and I have "blown" through "$250,000.00" dollars of Caseys insurance money. I am sure that they have ready access to my bank accounts, too. I know I am writing this to compassionate people who would rather focus on an administration who lies, tortures, kills innocent people using conventional and chemical weapons, spies on its citizens without due process, and is treacherous in outing a CIA operative for petty-high school like revenge thereby endangering her, her family, and her fellow CIA agents. If it wasnt for these criminals my son wouldnt need a tombstone...
I forgot this part:
For the first year after Casey was killed, I didnt want to believe it. I didnt want to place a TOMBstone on my sons grave. I didnt want one more marble proof that my son was dead. I couldnt even call where he was buried a "cemetery," I had to call it "Caseys Park." I placed fresh flowers in the cup every week and journaled there almost on a daily basis, and often laid on it and fell asleep and dreamed of my needlessly killed son. Have any of these people who claim that I am pissing on my sons grave even visited him? Have they visited the grave of any soldier needlessly or senselessly killed in Georges war of choice for oil and profit? Have they sobbed uncontrollably for my first born who shouldnt even need a gravestone? No, all they want to do is attack a mother who wants to prevent other people from having to bury their own child. They want to perpetuate a war that has already killed many thousands of our fellow human beings for absolutely nothing.
It wasn't for nothing Ms. Sheehan, you got at least $250k. But I'm sure you returned this to the government since it was "blood money".
Maybe Sheehan chose the most expensive of everything not ever intending to pay for it. I think almost $6,000 will pay for a normal funeral, it won't pay for the 'extras' like a more expensive casket, vault, limo, etc.
The $250,00 was what was in effect at the time of his death. Since then, Congress has authorized $400,000 as the maximum insurance payout, with anyone who received $250,000 since 8/10/2001 authorized to receive an additional $150,000 to make up the difference retroactively. And that's just the insurance. There is also the matter of the $100,000 Military Death Gratuity which she also received. That's $500,000 -- more than enough not to shaft the funeral director.
Thanks for the correction. And she says it's all gone.
8. Thank you all

It was fun designing the sticker, fun handing it out to DUers, and fun watching Cindy model it!!
Now watch the FReepers bitch about it. If you're reading this, FReepers, think about how much you'd want your loved ones to have a chance to be happy again if anything were to happen to you. There is joy in Camp Casey. Sure, there's sorrow and rememberance, but there is also joy. And that joy is born out of the fact that we still have hope for the human race.
"There is joy in Camp Casey."
Cindy joy. Money, money, money.
The rest of America observes Casey and his service -- and his life sacrifice.
Taps and a 21-gun salute to Casey Sheehan!
Weird...she looks like she is smiling at her own son's funeral.
There's one box Patrick Sheehan forgot to check. |
BULL. Check. Sweetness-light.
There is joy in Camp Casey
I know there's a picture of her in her car. I just can't find it.
Yep-a lot of people don't know, but they upped the SGLI death benefit a few months into the war and increased the death payment from $12K+ to $100K.
Poor, Mournful Cindy. Bumper sticker on her butt says something like Texas belongs to her - or she owns Texas or something like that.
