The Needle and the Damage Done is hardly a pro-drug song, but you go right along and rant.

This old hippie-has-been needs to just go smoke another blunt and write some lyrics in his journal with saint Sheehan. What a sad,sad existence. Grrrrr--these people make me ill.

The interesting thing about this is that by making an anti-war, anti-Bush album, Neil Young is suddenly the topic of major news headlines. My question: when was the last time a new Neil Young album was headline news anywhere, even in Rolling Stone?
The answer to that will tell you an awful lot about both Neil's motivations and those of the media.

This is no big deal. Just another example of tired, old '60s thinking trying to pass for "progressiveness."

You have to hand it to Neil, his timing is spot on. Let's write an anti-war, anti-Bush album when Bush has two years left on his watch. Brave, and cutting edge. Hey Neil, here in America we respond when we are attacked. If you don't like it go back to Canada and pay their taxes with your millions. Shoosh. Nothing worse than a cheap socialist.

His most famous song may be "The needle and the damage done".
He has been consistantly anti-war since viet-nam, nothing new here......
He may be wrong, but he's always been a brilliant song-writer and lousy singer, LOL!

This is nothing new...he has been doing this kind of "music" since VietNam. Young is a communist. I like the way Lynyrd handled him. Maybe they will do it again...

This is a smart move. Niel Young will be able to claim that this album doesn't sell because it is a principled political statement and not a commercial endeavor. As opposed to all his other recent albums, which don't sell simply because they suck.

Agreed. Hate to disagree with you guys here. I grew up with NY. His views on war, drugs, intolerance etc. are nothing new. Love many of his songs/albums.
After the Gold Rush
Cowgirl in The Sand
Down by The river
Like a Hurricane
Cortez the Killer
Walk On
Long May You Run
Powderfinger
Comes a Time
Funny thing though, all of my favorite songs of NY were released before I reached voting age. Hmmmn.
