Great points. The Socialist/Communist Left is leaving its fingerprints all over these protests. And, of course, the Left leaning press is more than willing to abet this illegal movement.

We need to keep at them and not let their coverage go uncritiqued.

Cardinal Mahoney is a left wing hack and he doesn't speak for all catholics

Though catholics and other religious leaders won't be prosecuted under this administration .. there could be an administration in the future that might .. which may be the reason many freaked out about the wording in the House Bill

Liberals are using it because they have an agenda ..

others just have concerns

Thanks, Fox!

I do know that every state has problems with illegals, but as you know, I was initially addressing some Midwestern types who were trying to lecture me on the Mexican immigrants in particular. I took umbrage that they tried to tell me I couldn't tell the difference between legal and illegal Hispanics, and that illegals were too "afraid" to try to get medical care and such. I begged to differ with her! ;>)

I do understand the concerns of some, but even in this forum it was used to bludgeon those of us who spoke up! The bill was never going to pass that would have prosecuted "Jesus" (in Hillary's words). It would have been taken out of any final bill, but the liberal Dems made sure that the opportunity to take it out of the bill was delayed since they want the issue. It just was a welcome tool for the libs to once more show the lack of feeling in the Wrascly Old Wepublicans!

I think what I found troubling was the conservatives, including those in this forum, who refused to rationally discuss the matter, and instead hid behind the leaders of the Catholic Church who had spoken out. If only some of the Catholic Leaders had spoken out as eloquently on behalf of some of the children abused by a few in it's ranks! I am a practicing Catholic who loves my Church, but must admit I lost some respect for the words of some of our so called leaders.

They thing is .. it was in the House Bill and that did pass .. which was all the ammo the Dems needed

Though I agree with you .. in the FINAL version it would have been taken out

The problem stems from the fact .. very few trust Congress these days

If only some of theCatholic Leaders had spoken out as eloquently on behalf of some of the children abused by a few in it's ranks!

Not sure what that has to do with the illegal mess

But many have spoken out .. though many in the media/press just doesn't cover it

They are too busy bashing the whole Catholic Church and praising blonde hair teachers in bikinis sitting on Harley's

I just have to comment...

this is just absurd.

when the trashy left media runs around DIGGING for ANYTHING anti-Bush, that is just ridiculous.

But when they run around DIGGING for anything anti-Bush at the EXPENSE of our security, prosperity, and the lives of MILLIONS (the ramifications of a defeat in Iraq would kill Iraqi's in the short run- but Americans, Isreali's, and ANYONE non-FANATICAL Muslim in the long run)..this is DESPICABLE and UNEXCUSABLE!

so when men like McInerny come forth to DEFEND and to SUPPORT this country and the REAL battle we face- I APPLAUD IT! I THANK MY GOD ABOVE FOR IT!

The battle in Iraq is NOT JUST about Iraq~~!

It is about FREEDOM AS WE KNOW IT!

It is about AMERICA's and Israel's VERY EXISTENCE!

Men like McInerny will go down in history with the great patriots of our forefathers that stood up for Freedom and the defense there of.....

today- Iraq is birthing their own Paul Revere's, there own Caesar Rodney's, along with their own Benedict Arnold's...

Where do we stand?

Who do we want to be aligned with?

Rumsfeld could be sitting on a beach, enjoying his family, golfing, and grandchildren....instad he is in the line of fire..working hours, and enduring pressure we could only begin to fathom... he was pulling wounded from the Pentagon on 9/11.... HE REMEMBERS what the face of the enemy looks like!

GOD BLESS HIM!

And GOD BLESS THOSE STANDING UP TO THE MEDIA ON HIS BEHALF!

McInerny needs NO DEFENDING! the morons willing to sacrafice our battle against the terror of 9/11 for a little press attention and face time are the ones who need to be defending themselves....

/rant off...

Hi again!

My mention of the poor handling of the abuse charges by the Church has nothing to do with the illegal immigrant situation. However, what I was pointing out was that I, and many I talk to WITHIN the church were far from proud at how MANY of the leaders were slow to respond, and then were not as forceful as they should have been in the handling of the aftermath. This lack of leadership to me makes it hard for me to take much of their concern for the downtrodden illegals as seriously as I may have at one time. They lost some of the respect I have for their ability to pass moral judgment. The Church's teaching would always make me treat all people with respect. But, lets face it. The Catholic Church and it's priests have lost much credibility in their talk of ministering to the "least of us" when they allowed unchecked pedophilia to go on amongst them. Last time I checked they were expected to minister to children, too. Didn't take that responsibility too seriously! Trust me, I am still a practicing Catholic, who believes in my religion, but it will be awhile before I feel compelled to follow the advice of her leadership on doing what is right for mankind!

I do not paint with a broad cloth, and know there are many kind, generous, truly selfless priests out there. I will respect them for what they do (although I also expect them to respect just laws), but I will not be lectured by their leaders who erred in judgment so recently in a matter of as much, if not more, weight!

I think PTD is correctly pointing out that Democrats are feigning support for hot button issues during the heat of debate and then preventing the removal of these controversial issues when they are reviewed by cooler heads.
In essence, the Dems, don't want a solution, they want an issue.

I also agree that the Catholic clergy lost a lot of its moral authority by its clumsy handling of pedophile issues. If the church is unable to handle its own moral dilemma, it is difficult for us to give it much weight on this issue. And it is not just the speaking out or not against pedophiles, but the way the higher level of clergy beginning with the Cardinals actually dealt with it. It was not the Church's finest hour!

Hi Mo!

Left to pick up lunch after my last post, and realized I probably sounded a bit shriller than I may have meant. As you point out, and I tried to, much of the clergy and the leaders are following their hearts on this matter. The ones I take exception to are those who because of their liberal bent suggest that the only true Christian position is to support the illegal immigration. No one expects any of us to step over a dehydrated immigrant of any kind in the desert and not offer them water. Nor do we want to see them starve or be ill once they are within our borders. However, NO ONE should be either "hiding them" or encouraging their migration which is against the laws of the United States. No clergy should suggest that we do that. If many of the clergy and others want to improve the lot of the impoverised Mexican population, they might be better served by offering them help on the Mexican side of the border, and petitioning the Mexican Government to be aware of, and help solve, their plight.
