Fox's take on this sums up what many of us feel, but have been berated for on a pretty regular basis on these threads! I do NOT consider myself racist, but I live in California, one of the areas most impacted by the illegals. We have watched our emergency hospital system become decimated, with many hospitals having to discontinue emergency room services. Gang activity has increased, as has much petty crime. Our state colleges have had to increase rates to legal citizens to cover the cost of offering "in state" tuition to illegals. You can barely make a phone call to any agency without going through multiple messages requesting that you punch one number or another to have the message given to you in English.
I grew up in a neighborhood, and went to a parochial school, that was predominantly Irish, Italian and Hispanic. I have always been surrounded by legal immigrants and find them to be wonderful, productive people. But the new breed of illegals is much less interested in assimilating. They are more interested in demanding their rights to be catered to. I've been bashed by many on these threads, asking how I can possibly know the illegals from the legals. That is unbelievably condescending to the many hispanics here legally! Mostly you can tell by the fact that they take pride in being American.
One of the great loves of my life is 1/4 Hispanic. my granddaughter is 1/4 each Irish, Italian, Norwegian and Spanish (her other grandmother is Spanish but raised in Mexico City). Her Norwegian and Mexican grandparents both came here legally, with neither speaking the others language, and her grandfather only speaking a bit of English. They assimilated well, both now speak fluent English and raised four children in Southern California. They are well off financially from many years of hard work. My daughter's sister in law is engaged to a man from Mexico, who has spent much time and money on getting to this country legally. His papers are in order, and he is working and living in Northern California. He, his fiancee and future in laws are appalled by the marches and Mexican flags they've seen on display.
As Fox says, you can't deport all those here illegally, but we should certainly be able to deport those who break any of our criminal laws, and those who feed off the welfare system. At least that would be a beginning, and would work well with working harder to secure our borders. We need to start somewhere, rather than throughing up our hands saying we can't do anything!
Rant off...........flame away!
One thing I think we agree upon is the need to speed the process of legal immigration and take a lot of the bureaucracy out of it.

A bunch of marxists are trying to get them organized. look at the bullying/extortion techniques they are using to get those workers their jobs back at the Mambo restarant after they walked out to march without permission. Classist union/marxist ploy. Hand out flyers, talk to the press and hurt the business until they give in. Been all over the news here for a week. The media loves it. Freepers should have counter-protested to let these folks their marxist ideas about worker's inalienable right to employment isn't welcome.
Tony Snow and the like have this fantasy of another legion of faithful Cubans. The cubans that left were the upper class. The people leaving the farms and slums on Mexico and Central America are the followers of Commander Zero and the Mestizo revolution. Avowed marxists, many of them. The dems know this.

If you want to stop the flow of illegals change the tax code to treat the hiring of illegals akin to dealing in the illegal drug trade. Pay your taxes on your illegal gain or face jail time and loss of property if you get caught. If you get caught and you're paid up, nothing more than a fine.
Have every one pay their "luxury" tax on the honor system. Just like in the illegal drug trade. Add up how much you paid to illegals and figure a tax on that. If you pay Flores 20 bucks every other week to mow your lawn, you are going to pay the luxury tax on that payment along with the big contractor who has 1,000's of illegals on their payroll. Pay your tax.

the repubs see a new cuban ally in the immigrants from Mexico, Central and South America. I got news for you guys, the people who came to the USA from Cuba were the merchant class by and large. Tailor made republicans. Their counterparts in Mexico, Central and South America aren't leaving their Cuba because they are the Batista of these countries. If Batista was in charge of Cuba today he would have solved his problems by sending Castro and his folks to the USA to find their economic pot of gold LOL. The people coming from the south are peasants. Peasants and their organizers. Can we defend ourselves against their revolutionary politics. Depends if we give them a vote or not.
Thanks for letting me vent. I've stayed away from posting much after being jumped on by so many. I really hope to at least begin seeing a solution to the mess that's been created, in my lifetime. We just need for someone to have the courage to take steps in that direction.

Create a luxury tax and have people pay on the honor system like drug dealers. If they get caught they won't lose everything and go to jail since they paid. They'll only pay another fine. Use the tax revenues to fund border patrol. Makes too much sense. Like my idea to sell arctic and offshore drilling leases like treasury notes on auction every day the world price of crude stays above the peg. if the liberals don't like it, re-institute the draft and get on with re-shuffling the historical deck over in the ME.
General Myers is my personal hero. Tony had him on his Weekend show on Saturday. Gen. Myers was interviewed on Brit Hume's Special Report on Friday (can't remember if it was Jim Angle who was subbing for Brit) - but Gen. Myers has done a fantastic job in explaining his position.
Oh what I wouldn't give to be with Tony, to meet Gen. Myers in person.

I went swimming in my pool yesterday and am hoping for the same today. If it's stop getting so chilly at night, I'd be able to KNOW that I'm going to get into my pool - not have to test it first.

I've taken some heat with similar postings, and have been doing more lurking than posting lately. ;>)
It's a heated topic .. with no quick solutions to fixed this illegal mess
I was lurking myself for a while hoping cooler heads would prevail .. but as usual .. I couldn't keep my big fat mouth shut ;0)

I try to keep my mouth shut too, but it gets to me when some try to act like they know what goes on, and they're from an area with little impact from illegal immigration. (No, I don't live in California, Arizona, New Mexico or Texas, but I stayed in a Holiday Express last night....) I've been lectured by other Catholics who think I'm some sadistic type who has no compassion when I question the Church's right to dictate to others on this matter. If we want to show real compassion perhaps those who are lecturing can go to Southern and Central American countries and minister to the poor there and petition their leaders to take better care of their own. No one was really suggesting that priests or nuns would be prosecuted for giving people a helping hand. But, neither should they be encouraging them to break the law.
this matter needs to be discussed in the Public Forum without fear of being labeled a bigot or a racist when one is only trying to find realistic answers to major problems!!
[Although, because of the efforts of our Dem. Gov., NC is now becoming heavy with illegals.]
