'We don't know all the facts about the alleged Duke lacrosse rape, but . . ."
That's more or less how most commentators have introduced their remarks on the case that has reduced the Durham, N.C., community to prayers, tears and recriminations.
Let me interpret the code for you: Men are bad.
Even though we don't know what happened, we're not going to let the absence of facts interfere with our indictment of a team, a coach, a school, but more to the point -- of boys.
About the only thing to emerge with any clarity since a black exotic dancer claimed that three white lacrosse players raped her last month is our willingness to believe the worst about males.
That belief is all the more rewarding if the males happen to be white, as well as athletes, and especially if they're perceived to be privileged. If there's one thing we can't bear in this country, it's spoiled white boys who think the world owes them a good time.

While we wait to hear what the grand jury decides, we might turn our harsh judgment inward and recognize that the anti-male groupthink that permitted a presumption of guilt in Durham is little different than the lynch-mob mentality that once channeled rage against blacks.
Obviously, no woman deserves to be raped for any reason, under any circumstances. But nor do men deserve to be presumed guilty just because they're men.

Originated in Wisconsin I believe.
I didn't say she was doing anything unlawful. I said I have disgust and contempt for her. And I do. And that's the way it is.
Yep. Well, it's more of that mentality wherein people shun personal responsibility whenever possible. My folks always let me know: if you get into a fix because you were doing something stupid, you are on your own. And I heeded their warning well.
Look, if I go to a black bar and make loud racist comments and get beat up, absolutely nobody will claim that I bore no share of responsibility for what happened.
Wome who behave equally stupidly and get raped are defended with great tenacity.
And you don't disgust and contempt for those who who were also drunkards and who hired her to strip?
Amazingly, these drunken lacrosse-playing louts managed to rape this young woman and leave no trace of DNA! In between fending off attackers, she painted her nails and, dead drunk, fell down the steps, (clothing mysteriously undisturbed). The likely explanation for belated claims of rape is to shift the blame...if cops determined she was under the influence of drugs, certainly drunk...she feared she'd lose her children and perhaps any welfare type payments, end up in jail, be kicked out of school, whatever. So be the victim. Voila. Suddenly life is good and Jesse Jackson says he'll pay her school bills.
One of the best lacrosse players to ever play for Syracuse University was Jim Brown a black man.
Brown was black playing white?
BTW wasn't Jim Brown also know for is agressivenes towards Woman?
FWIW, white on black rape is statistically one of the least common violent crimes. If I remember correctly, black on white rape is something like 200 times more common.
Doesn't mean it didn't happen in this instance, of course.
Stupidity isn't against the law, well, driving drunk will get you in trouble. These Duke students were stupid and drunk, but they're not rapists. Now the vultures circle for a feast. Jesse Jackson...notice big Al isn't flapping his wings in Durham...too close to the bone. The less said about the DA, the better. His motives are suspect.
Perhaps you should read my post #12.
I believe it was in the shadows of the Old Style Water Towers. The Big Six.
Why are we bringing rape stats into this? I don't care what race she is or what race they are.
"These Duke students were stupid and drunk, but they're not rapists."
That's what the jury system is to decide.
If the accusation is bogus but charges are brought anyway, and the prosecutor manages to get an all-black jury, he might be able to get convictions (which would be overturned on appeal)...sort of a reverse of To Kill a Mockingbird...but I doubt they will be able to exclude all whites from the jury. Not that there aren't black people in Durham who would do an honest job as jurors, but the prosecutor could try to make sure none of them were selected.
I brought it up only because much of the commentary has been along the line that this rape, which is assumed to have happened as claimed, is emblematic of the "long history of sexual oppression of black women by white men" in the US. All of us, especially white males, should bow our heads in shame and pay reparations to all African-Americans.
It looks to me a lot like a Tawana Brawley remake. There appear to have been about as many fake racist incidents in recent years as real ones.
"There appear to have been about as many fake racist incidents in recent years as real ones."
And you base this on what?
He was my neighbor on Sunset Plaza Drive and we called him "throw the white women out the window Jim."
A generalized personal impression that about half the high-profile racist incidents of recent years, especially those on college campuses, turned out to have beed faked by the "victims."
I haven't seen any stats on this, though.
It is notable that the initial reports always got a great deal more publicity than the "never mind." It is also fascinating that some of the victim group activists would claim that it didn't matter whether the incident actually happened. It was "fake but real."
