Illegal immigration is NOT a policical sideshow. The legalization part is indeed a sideshow, the size of the problem makes it so. There will be some type of compromise reached. Believe it.
The protection of our borders is a security issue that will be solved shortly IMHO,
The war on terror is the main issue we must not lose sight of.

Just thinking out loud here:
Obviously, Bush don't see the need to bend his will to what the public whats.
But he's still commander in chief, complete with war powers etc.
Does that lead one to believe his future plans, while maybe good for the nation, don't need having a supportive Congress?
