Riley builds big lead over (Roy) Moore
Mobile Press-Register ^ | 4/16/06 | Bill Barrow

Poll: Riley builds big lead over Moore Sunday, April 16, 2006 By BILL BARROW Capital Bureau MONTGOMERY -- Gov. Bob Riley has stormed to a 44-point lead over challenger Roy Moore in the battle for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, according to a new statewide survey.

The Press-Register/University of South Alabama poll showed Riley with 64 percent support of self-identified Republican primary voters. Moore, the ousted Alabama Supreme Court chief justice, had 20 percent.

The findings indicate that the Republican contest is becoming a cakewalk for the incumbent with seven weeks left until the June 6 vote.

"These poll results suggest that Moore's campaign has pretty well tanked," said USA political scientist Keith Nicholls, who directed the polling, which was conducted Monday through Thursday.

The poll includes responses from 402 registered voters, who described themselves as likely or very likely to vote in the Republican primary. The results carry a margin of error of 5 percentage points.

Nicholls said Riley's lead appears "insurmountable" at this point. "It's hard to imagine what might happen to bring Moore back to competitiveness," he said. "Bottom line is that the fat lady may not have sung for Roy Moore, but she's warming up."

Nicholls' assessment was echoed by William Stewart, professor emeritus in the University of Alabama political science department: "Judge Moore has made a miscalculation, and I'm afraid some of us analysts attributed strength to him that he obviously doesn't have."

Roy Moore = Foghorn Leghorn and Elmer Gantry with a gavel.

Granted, Riley came across as a moron when he said that "Jesus Christ told me to raise taxes." Nevertheless, he is far preferable to Moore, who should have stuck to playing Dolemite and the Avenging Disco Godfather. ;-)

No, what he shoulda done is followed Falwell's lead, gotten himself one of those mega-churches (which we have none of here, at least not that I know of), and tried to get on T.V. He is a bright man, alot of people fall for his bull, and he could've raked in a killing as one of those televangelist con-artists. As for the election though, I've seen this coming, I've said so on here. When polling is introduced at the height of negative Siegelman coverage, and Siegelman still has a slight advantage on Moore, that about tells you the state of his campaign. He would only serve to cost us the elections because of an interparty divide.

This is good. I support Riley. What Moore has done is wrong.

We had our chances for revival three or four years ago when Americans were afraid, and the Lord's Reality could then be easily proved with answered prayers, healings, and prospering due to seed being sown.

During prosperous times the unsaved could give a damn about God until some family member, friend, or co-worker dies, or has to go into a hospital...Ff

And then Altair333 stood up and said...
"Good for Alabama- Moore has "demagogue" written all over him."

And you sir, fool no one, your polls are flawed and your implied support for a southern RINO who is but a slimy political hack suggests either ignorance or grubbing duplicity.

Poor Altair, he has only half the mark of the beast.
Maybe "One-term" Bob Reily's electronic handle is BOB-333.

Smile.

Hope you didn't get bit by a snake during your Church services this Sunday.

And FWIW, I have no idea what Riley is like, but I can see what Moore is all about, and apparently the residents of Alabama can as well.

Ya know what I think, Altair? I think that you very well know what Bob Riley is like. And I think that you are from Alabama and have a close link to his shenanigans. If not you may apologize for your out-of-the-blue intrusion into Alabama politics.

What shenanigans?

Riley is the first governor we've had since Brewer who is not asking to have his ass indicted. There are no federal probes on him, the Justice Department doesn't have an active investigation against him. There have been no charges of RICO against him, no one in his administration has been brought up on RICO, and he certainly doesn't have a slate of people who he's trying to push in the election as the "Riley candidates", besides the Plan for Progress (which admittedly, was moronic, but at least he had the cojones to try something), what wrong has he done. He's brought numerous jobs to this state, and he's certainly improved the image of the state, how can I put this, Roy Moore acts like a Republican Wallace, and Riley acts like the exact opposite of Wallace. Now, I have a problem with his stance on gambling, but, I think thats something he'll come around on.

Remember the signs posted around voting stations when Slick Bobby was trying to intimidate the good people of Alabama into voting for Riley's billion dollar tax increase? It read...

DO THE RIGHT THING

Well we did and threw the tax increase out.
And no old people were thrown out of nursing homes.
And 10,000 prisoners were not released to the streets.
And schools were not closed and highway patrolmen were not fired and orphan children were not sold to passing gypsies.
As Bob Riley had promised.

I tell you folks Bob Riley is no better than a Democrat.
I hate to say things that ugly about a man, but it's the truth.

You folks know I'm a big Roy Moore fan, though I'm under no impression now that he'll come close to upsetting the disappointing Riley. Moore is likely far better a jurist than a potential Governor. I hope to see him sitting back on the courts before long where he belongs.

There is one thing to be said for Roy Moore: If he were the nominee, he would generate a huge turnout in rural areas among fundamentalists. AND the turnout would generate coattails which would unseat Democrats throughout rural Alabama.

Of course, Moore might suffer losses elsewhere, but those voters would split tickets. Something to think about.

He's a rotten jurist. He believes that he is not subject to higher judicial authority.

He belongs on neither the court, nor in government.

Robert Tilton is looking for an associate, however, and Moore could preach to receptive audiences all he wanted.

Did you see this?

This proves that God really loves the people of Alabama as He is about to spare them from a demagogue.
