Thanks AB, rodguy, snugs and Happy Easter to all.

Looks like ABC will talk about so-called Rummy-revolt.

Who are these generals? -> Daniel Engber explains in Slate.

About 4,700 general officers are enjoying their retirement in the United States right now. That means the six former generals who stepped forward to criticize Rumsfeld make up about one-tenth of 1 percent of the total community.

In March, five of them wrote a letter to the Supreme Court asking that Justice Scalia recuse himself from the Hamdan case. In January, nine generals and three admirals banded together as the "Retired Generals Against Torture" and sent an open letter to the Senate judiciary committee. These generals are moveon.org-generals & should be exposed.

"About 4,700 general officers are enjoying their retirement in the United States right now."

Slate's numbers were off by about half...the DoD on Friday put it at over 8,000 active and retired (900 active).

My, my, Slate actually getting it right. For a change. Good piece here noting that one tenth of one percent,6 generals crying for Rummy to be fired is hardly a mandate.

I want to know what that says about any general calling for a Sec/Def to be fired during a time of war. These guys must be nuts! They should lose their retirement if nothing else.

What I find disturbing is the growing and unprecedented trend toward politization of the military, CIA, and the diplomatic corps, which both parties, but primarily the Dems, have fostered along with the willing cooperation of some in those organizations. It weakens the credibility and advice they provide to policymakers and creates distrust between political apppointees and career employees.

I remember the parade of flag officers at the 2004 Dem National Convention acting as props to Kerry. I recall the Diplomats and Military Commanders for Change who advocated that Bush not be reelected. Other career government employees believe that they deserve a piece of the pie as well, witness Richard Clarke, Joe Wilson, and a host of other dim bulbs who are making money off their "inside" information. The MSM aids and abets them, paticularly if they are anti-Bush, anti-Rep.

That Lt Col has a different experience than I have. Well over half of the Majors/Lt Cols I've run in to think Rumsfeld has done a mediocre or poor job. And that is from USAF officers - the Army guys I met in Seoul had a much stronger & lower opinion.

And I have NEVER heard anyone call him the "110% Secretary"! I've never even met anyone who could keep a straight face while talking like that - about anyone!

I think the Lt Col is full of...stuff.

I would also point out that none of the 6 calling for Rumsfeld's retirement asked the SCOTUS about Hamdan.
