SAN FRANCISCO - The Dalai Lama urged religious leaders Saturday to reach out to Muslims, saying Islam is a compassionate faith that has been unfairly maligned because of a few extremists. 'snip' He said all human beings are prone to violence if they lose control of their emotions and not to judge an entire faith based on a few people. "A few mischievous people are always there," he said.

A few people???? I think HHDL has been cloistered in meditation abit too long , like for the last 4 years! Surely he can see the near worldwide support , or acquiessence to this jihad bull, by the vast majority of muslimes ? Maybe he should visit Bamiyan in Afghanistan and reflect on what those empty wholes in the cliffs there mean for Buddhists. Maybe he needs some refresher courses in the history of Buddhism in India , once the moslem hoards entered the picture? I used to have so much respect for this holy man , but now days he is looking more and more like a Neville Chamberlain in monks robes. ps: I bet he thinks the situation in todays Tibet and ever since 1959 and including the holocaust for Tibetans of the Cultural Revolution was also the result of 'a few mischievous people'....No wonder so many younger Tibetan have give up on waiting for his approach to ever work out.But the Western suckers still buy it hook ,line and sinker. Poor man , go back to your cave please .

The Dahlai Lama (or however it's spelled) giving anyone advice on how to live is just laughable. I read an interview with him ages ago, when, apparently, he wasn't this crazed, and all he basically said was to have no expectations of life and don't get mad at anything. I thought it was weird that they'd interview a five-year-old about this stuff, but no matter.

How's that Free Tibet thing going, oh giver of knowledge?

The thing that cracks me up about the Buddha statues is that Buddhists meditate on impermanence in many of their artistic excercises, like sand mandalas, where they destroy it right after it's completed. I though the destruction of those statues was a good reminder of the impermanent nature of things. Even if they've been around thousands of years they're just as subject to decay as everything else. The world needs to get over it, I'm sure plenty of buddhists have!

I seriously doubt that the Dalai Lama has read the koran nor has he ever had some supernatural premonition of its contents.

The numerous passages enjoining moslems to kill non-moslems might - just might - give him pause about "reaching out" to those of this "compassionate faith."

Islam has always had a special hatred for Buddhists and Buddhism . I do not think it behooves Buddhists to look kindly upon or excuse all the past horrors of the negative interactions that have occurred. Does HHDL excuse the PRC's genocidal Red Guards their deprivations upon Tibet? The legacy of Islam has been much worse, and given the license will be a thousand times worse in the future. The Dalai Lama , I think ,fears moslem attacks on Buddhists in Ladahk and upon the Buddhist Holy places . He is handing them appeasement in the hopes that their wrath will be directed elsewhere.

Nor does it behoove any of the rest of us to continue treating islam as though it is ammenable to polite society.

Remember, it was the moslem Turks that taught the nazis how to perform genocide by isolating huge groups of Armenians out in the desert so that they simply starved to death. The nazis used that practice as a pattern for their death camps.

I have no doubt that given half a chance , the muslims would and will try and institute these practices and far worse again in the future. This is why the Dalai Lama should seriously reassess what he is saying publicly , and also why the world cannot (read:CANNOT!) allow Iran to get the Bomb....
