Wow. Seems like the defense could have a constitutional argument here. Does this lay apply to colleges and vocational schools? Fly by night cosmetology schools? Private high schools? She’s 22. He’s 18. They’re long lovers. She’s not a predator. What part of consenting adults don't NC lawmakers understand, and doesn’t the prosecutor have better things to do? Her indiscretion should cost her her job, not her freedom. Besides she’s completely boinkable, so what’s the problem?

We had soemthing similar here at our local high school but it was a male teacher with an 18 year old female student. He resigned but they didn't press charges - how could they? It was between consenting adults.

The loss of trust in the teacher/student relationship is what made him resign - well that and his wife threw him out and everyone was disgusted with him . . . .

I am not one of those who think a female teacher has sex with a student is no big deal. This situation is quite a bit different than almost all others. The age difference is very small and she likely never knew of the guy through school.

I don't think this situation is what the legislature had in mind when they passed the law she violated. Because of that, I would not vote to convict if I were on a jury.
