The Left, Online and Outraged
The Washington Post ^ | Saturday, April 15, 2006 | David Finkel

Posted on 04/14/2006 11:15:21 PM PDT by Plutarch

In the angry life of Maryscott O'Connor, the rage begins as soon as she opens her eyes and realizes that her president is still George W. Bush... Out there, awaiting her building fury: the Angry Left, where O'Connor's reputation is as one of the angriest of all. "One long, sustained scream" is how she describes the writing she does for various Web logs...

---------------snip----------------------

What's notable about this isn't only the level of anger but the direction from which it is coming. Not that long ago, it was the right that was angry and the left that was, at least comparatively, polite. But after years of being the targets of inflammatory rhetoric, not only from fringe groups but also from such mainstream conservative politicians as Newt Gingrich, the left has gone on the attack. And with Republicans in control of Washington, they have much more to be angry about.

"Powerlessness" is O'Connor's explanation. "This is born of powerlessness..."

Their whole philosophy is based upon their perceived lack of power as individuals which must be compensated for by instituting collectivism.

I'm sustaining a heart rate of 150+

For an average of 43-57 minutes.

I love treadmill machines.

I’m a recovering alcoholic. Haven’t had a drink since November 22, 1996.

• I’m a smoker. And serial quitter. One day, I swear, I WILL defeat this ***ing addiction.

I am on disability, due to an immune disorder that causes chronic pain and fatigue (fibromyalgia – what a bullshit diagnosis). Adam used to make a living as a photographer, but Bush’s fabulous economy forced him to go back to work in the film industry.

• My husband and I are college educated people (though I dropped out of the University of Michigan to move to California with my first husband and royally f*** up my life for a solid decade). Adam's parents were wealthy and my mother was solidly middle class. Our combined income now puts us somewhere on the edge between middle and lower-middle class. Before I became disabled, my son and I already qualified for MediCal and Medicare because our income had become sufficiently low. However, as our income stagnated over the past four years, my MediCal benefits were cut and my share of cost increased to the point where we could not afford to avail ourselves of medical treatment.

Fortunately, last year Adam became eligible for health insurance through his union (though continuing with that coverage depends on his working at least 300 hours on union jobs, which are scarce). It came just in the nick of time, too – shortly after getting the healthcare benefits, I had to undergo testing for uterine and ovarian cancer. I might have been tested and treated months earlier, but opted not to seek yearly physicals because of the increased share of cost through MediCal. However, should the worst diagnosis have come to pass, I was more worried, frankly, about our share of the expenses than I was about dying. Twenty percent of a medical crisis is enough to bury us. It turned out to be a problem easily remedied with a D&C and birth control pills, incidentally. Two treatments I'm sure the Radical Right Wing Neocon Christofascist Zombie Brigade would love to make virtually impossible to receive...

Okay, so she can blog all day and do an hour on the treadmill, but she can't work. Got it.

And a "recovering alcoholic". What's with the wine in the photo with her if she doesn't drink any longer?

Well, that could be Coke in a wine glass. But it definitely sounds to me like she is perfectly capable of working. She just doesn't want to.

Sorry, but I don't ever remember the left being "polite." The left has always been condescending and rude to any who don't share their beliefs. It comes from their belief that not only are they "right," but they're the moral ones, so everyone else isn't just wrong, but mean and even evil.

Look at the eyes in that photo! I see a serial killer lurking there, just waiting for a chance to get out. I have no doubt that deep down, she wishes she was holding a knife in her left hand. And that she was using it on one of those she hates.

Anyway, Bush couldn't be the anti-Christ, Clinton had that title sewed up long before Bush came on the scene.

I always thought the anti-christ was going to be a man, but with Hillary, I could be wrong.

I stopped lurking at DU a long time ago because I couldn't stand reading the DUmmies hateful and insane posts.

I've only gone to DU a couple of times, and then only for a matter of minutes. Its like walking into a room full of 2 year olds, and trying to have an intelligent adult level conversation with a 2 year, old who doesn't know how to talk yet, but has an awful lot to say. All the while all the other 2 year olds are chattering away, grabbing your pant leg wanting attention, or just outright screaming, for the sake of screaming.

In short, sanity starts shaking, and I rush back here, for a strong double shot of reality and adulthood.

Now as opposed to this woman (and I use the term loosely), there are times here on FR that I read the state of events of this country or world, and I start feeling anger coming on. After a while of this, if I don't start reading some of the lighthearted postings here, I leave to either do something else or read something else.

There is a time and a place to be angry about something. But to constantly be in that state is not good. This woman talks about being in that state for hours and hours on end.

One of the things I love about FR is the levity that can be found here. Even about some extremely serious issues.

For example: Hellen Thomas. She has extremely serious issues. And yet she is the butt of an awful lot of jokes. (or at least her face is "the awful butt" of a joke)

'Drama queen'

Don't give this type of person a drama reward, ignore them.

Get a job lady - be part of the solution not the problem.

I am on disability, due to an immune disorder that causes chronic pain and fatigue (fibromyalgia – what a bulls**t diagnosis).

Fibromyalgia is no "immune disorder". If she had lab tests, they would all be negative. Although perfectly healthy, she managed to get a bogus diagnosis so that we taxpayers can pay for her upkeep.

Being idle contributes to her obvious mental disorder. If she was working she would have better things to do, people to be around, and a check on her break with reality.

Mayo Clinic

fibromyalgia isn't progressive, crippling or life-threatening. Treatments and self-care steps can improve symptoms and your general health.

Many of the symptoms of fibromyalgia mimic those of other diseases, such as low thyroid hormone production (hypothyroidism), polymyalgia rheumatica, neuropathies, lupus, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Diagnosing fibromyalgia is difficult because there isn't a single, specific diagnostic laboratory test. In fact, before receiving a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, you may go through several medical tests, such as blood tests and X-rays, only to have the results come back normal. Although these tests may rule out other conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and multiple sclerosis, they can't confirm fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia isn't progressive and generally doesn't lead to other conditions or diseases.

Whenever my Dem friends go off on their rants, I try to pin them down (and calm them down) and try to actually discuss the issues rationally. It's usually a very ineffectual attempt, because they don't want to calmly and rationally discuss issues, they want to rant.

I have friends that are lefties too and at first I would give them a different point of view to ponder, but they could not understand it and kept up with their nonsense. Now, I change the subject and talk about something else. It is much better because you can't change them no matter how hard you try.

This blogger is a really good example of why Michelle Malkin's book Unhinged: Exposing Democrats Gone Wild is so amazingly accurate in describing Left.

What's pathetic is that if Bush were a democrat he would be hailed by liberals as the greatest liberator in history and a tremendous humanitarian for ridding the world of Saddam.

The Marxists are singular in their mindset. It's the Agenda uber alles. There is an old Russian saying (paraphrasing): "The future is known. The past is always changing."
