not sure we should ascribe normal thinking processes to this megalomaniacal POS. That is our greatest weakness: Assuming that their thought processes are in any way similar to civilized people. They see no reason to even pretend to justify anything they do.

Just take him at his word, face value: he had said he will bring Armageddon down on us within the next two years. He has said they will rule the world and we will be annihilated and/or subjugated. (They fully intend to bring back the Caliphate) . He has said they will wipe Israel off the face of the earth.
That's all we need to know to "understand" what they are about.
There is no diplomacy with these people whose goal is to annihilate us. "Diplomatic talks" to them is only a means to mark time for them to gain time towards their goal.
