PURCELL -- An Amber Alert was issued 7:40 p.m. Thursday for 10-year-old Jamie Rose Bolin of Purcell.

Jamie was reported missing by her father, Curtis Bolin, after she never returned home Wednesday night, said Police Chief David Tompkins.

"The last time anyone saw her was a neighbor girl between 4 and 5 p.m.," he said. "She told us that Jamie was riding her bicycle from school to her house to get a set of keys so she could go to the library."

Police are seeking a 20- to 30-year-old white male with dark hair, who was reportedly driving a dark blue Chevrolet Tahoe with Texas plates, in the reported abduction. The vehicle had dark tinted windows, large shiny wheels and the word "fox" on its back window, police said. A partial license plate reading was "Z69," according to the alert. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-877-OK-AMBER.

Officers believed Jamie might have met the man on the Internet. Late Thursday, Tompkins said the FBI had become involved in the search.

An Amber Alert was not issued immediately because an abduction was not witnessed, Tompkins said. As of late Thursday afternoon, police believed Jamie might have run away.

"We have not a clue right now where she is," Tompkins said Thursday afternoon, noting that search efforts included personnel from Wadley's Ambulance Service, the Purcell Fire Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the McClain County Sheriff's Department and Dibble, Lexington, Oklahoma City and Washington, Okla., police officers and authorities are assisting in search efforts in varying capacities. Throughout Thursday, city crews were also directed to help in search efforts, said Mayor Betty Gerhard.

Jamie's paternal grandmother, Marian Rose Fox, said the family has no reason to believe that she ran away.

"She was a pretty good student when she wanted to be," Rose said, "and she just recently joined the Girl Scouts. We're praying that if she is somewhere, worst case scenario that someone is out there who took her, I'm hoping she hears me, she sees me on TV, or something and can hear me say that she's not in trouble... We want her, we miss her and we need her home."

Rose said family members and area churches have rallied around the close-knit family to provide food and emotional support during search and rescue efforts.

"I just hope that she can do whatever it takes to get away, make a noise or something to let us know where she is," she said.

Jamie is described as an about 110 pound, red-haired girl with blue eyes and freckles. She wears glasses, and authorities believe she was last seen wearing a pink shirt, blue jeans or white shorts, and riding her green bicycle with pink or purple lettering on a chain guard.

"Right now we're asking that anyone who has seen anything or knows anything that may lead to her recovery should call us at 527-4600," said Purcell Fire Chief Mike Clifton.

This one hits close to home, and I'm concerned that this case is not going to have a happy ending.

Prayers are much needed in this case. Local news was reporting that she was "chatting" with this freak on the library computers, and that the conversation was sexually explicit. Just amazing--she's only TEN YEARS OLD, and holding sexually explicit conversations with someone on the internet...!!

But, but, but... what about the 1st Amendment? You trying to *censor* free speech in the public sphere? And what's wrong w/ sex? You advocating puritanism, victorianism, *Christianity*? You must be a right-wing, neocon, fundamentalist, ignoramus. /sarcasm

Keep your eye on those chickens coming home to roost, people. You can't live like you have been and not reap the whirlwind.

This 'freak' is only the product of our freakish society. The girl herself has been raised in a 'freakish' society such that she doesn't see anything wrong with what she was doing.

It is our society that has become 'freakish'.

Wake up.

From the interviews (videos available on channeloklahoma.com), you get the sense that this is a troubled family. I didn't see the mother or hear her mentioned on any of them, so apparently this little girl was living with her dad and her grandma. I'm just floored that a child of that age knows enough about sex to chat with some freak in "explicit" terms. I know I'm older than dirt, but when I was 10, I'm pretty sure I thought that "sex" meant "is it a boy or girl," not the way it's usually meant today.

If you focus on the perp or on the 'family' you miss the point.

It is our *society* that has become so 'freakish' that it has created the perp, the girl *and* the family.

It is our freakish *society* that is the overriding problem, not the people involved. They are merely products of the freakish society that we now have.

Gotta disagree. There has to be a place for individual responsibility. You can't let this perp walk because "it's all society's fault." That's the liberal way of doing things.

Excuse me, you have this totally backwards. Society is made up of the individual, the individual is not made up of society.

Society is the product of many individuals.

Oh, bless her heart. If she's visible anywhere, at least she'll be recognized, with that red hair. I'm praying for her here in TX.

A few more details:

The disappearance was first treated as a runaway, but an Amber Alert was issued after another girl told police Jamie had been using a computer to talk online with a man.

[FBI agent Gary Johnson] said the girl was seen by several witnesses at 3:50 Wednesday afternoon getting into a dark blue Chevy Tahoe at the Purcell library. There have been no confirmed sightings of her since.

Johnson said the Tahoe is distinctive with tinted windows, black leather custom seats, the letters "KC" on the seat headrests and a large "FOX" logo on the rear window and a Texas license plate. A partial reading on the tags was "Z-6-9."

Johnson also said the Tahoe has damage on the right side front and rear doors.

And authorities are looking for a tall, thin white man in his 20s who may be with the girl. Johnson said the man might have an earring in his left ear.

News Conference Called For 9 P.M.

UPDATED: 6:50 pm CDT April 14, 2006
PURCELL, Okla. -- Police are searching for a 10-year-old Purcell girl who disappeared Wednesday afternoon. An Amber Alert, issued for a missing Purcell girl two nights ago, was cancelled Friday night amid speculation that the 10-year-old may have been killed.

Sources within the Purcell Police Department told Eyewitness News 5's Kimberly Lohman that "it doesn't look good" for family and friends of Jamie Rose Bolin, missing since about 3:50 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities said she was last seen at the Purcell library.

According to reports, a man living downstairs from the Bolin family has been taken into custody in connection with the case. Police said they have a suspect in custody, but they would not confirm that this man was him.

FBI agent Gary Johnson said Friday afternoon that law enforcement across Oklahoma and Texas were looking for Bolin and following hundreds of tips.

The disappearance was first treated as a runaway, but an Amber Alert was issued after another girl told police Jamie had been using a computer to talk online with a man.

Johnson said the girl was seen by several witnesses at 3:50 Wednesday afternoon getting into a dark blue Chevy Tahoe at the Purcell library. There were no confirmed sightings of her since.

Johnson also said the Tahoe has damage on the right side front and rear doors. He said about 100 FBI personnel, Purcell police officers, McClain County deputies and members of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol are involved in the investigation.

Purcell Police Chief David Tompkins said Jamie was first reported missing by her father when she didn't return home Wednesday night. An Amber Alert wasn't issued immediately because no one had witnessed an abduction.

They just reported that an ambulance had to be called to the police department--a family member had collapsed. Oh, this is just so sad, and it appears this monster lived downstairs from them.

I've seen families go thru these horrible events and I did everything in my power to recover the child. So I include prayers for the family, the searchers, that the angels guide them. In His Holy Name.

Oh, dear me. Some little girls and young teens here had been talking on MySpace with men pervs in their own neighborhoods - I wonder if this is also the case. Maybe not as trackable and obvious as phone calls and text messaging, I don't know.

I don't think it looks too good, either. Bless her.

Wow, that's really sad.

Sounds like MySpace is a very dangerous place to hang out.

Body recovered in Amber Alert case

By Chad Previch
The Oklahoman

Authorities confirmed a man has been detained Friday night in the case of a missing 10-year-old girl and a body has been recovered.

Jessica Brown, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman, said a body has been found at the apartment complex of Jamie Rose Fox. The medical examiner's office will have to confirm the identity of the remains.

"It's awful," Brown said.

The man detained is thought to be a neighbor in Jamie's apartment complex, Purcell Park Apartments, Brown said.

About 6:20 p.m. Friday, Purcell police canceled the Amber alert issued on Thursday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
