A two-year tradition for wounded war vets is about to go by the wayside. A downtown DC steak house thats catered to injured troops every Friday night is about to close.
Fran OBriens landlord [Hilton] is forcing out the steakhouse of the same name.
We're not feeling very good about leaving and especially the Friday night dinner, OBrien said.
With the restaurant soon to close, so too will go a hang-out spot that troops have been able to call home while healing, if only for a few hours every week.
In a statement from Hilton hotels, a spokesperson writes: "this is a business decision whereby Hilton Hotels is exploring several options to utilize this space."
But the decision impacts more than just the business that's getting the boot.
A Hilton hotel spokesperson say they are -- on some level -- hoping to keep the Friday night alive without Fran OBriens.
Seems to me a certain elf doesn't have clue
No, this is corporate america doing exactly what they pay, the politicians, to be allowed to do. Screw the little man!
Now shoo! Go away!!!
Or a life
BTTT
Gee, wonder who could have done that?!? Any clue as to the identity of "The Shadow?" :-)
Don't do that again.
Heck, I was quite impressed.

Here is the question that I asked: Did you see what they are going to use the space for?
You did not respond to this question because you do not know the answer. You are now presuming that a different business will go in there, but you do not know that either.
There have been links to previous articles on this issue. Read them.
First the restaraunt was going to have it's lease renewed. Then, sometime after April 1st, they were told that the lease would not be renewed and they had to be out before the first of May. Then they were told that the Hilton was afraid the military men that were coming on Friday evenings could get hurt and could sue Hilton. Now they are saying that they will "try" to continue the Friday evening dinners for the military.
Either way, Hilton has gone on record that they do not know what they will do to replace Fran O'Brien's, so how could you know?
i am not telling you how to or how not to spend your money... just as hilton as landlord is under no obligation to continue to lease to fran obriens... bottom line is if there is more money to be made, they have a right to pursue it... no matter how righteous the tenant...
it is their property. i would hope that freepers would appreciate the rights of property owners more in conjunction with how our founders relished it...
is it a loss for our service men? yes. can fran obriens start another place... yes. we cannot legislate compassion.
and i would no more tell you what to do with your money as to tell you that you had to earn less so that i could give away more to a cause i thought was note worthy...

I have not seen one person, not one, talk about the government intervening in this case. We're all upset as consumers, as we have a right to be. For you to tell me I should not be upset, you're attempting to tell me how to spend my money.
i said what you say... For you to tell me I should not be upset, you're attempting to tell me how to spend my money. like you are attempting to tell hilton how to spend theirs...
on your own pitard...
teeman
My pitard? Whatever you say, Hoss. But I'm not the one trying to involve government here. So how about telling me again how us good conservatives are supposed to feel?
Can't you read? It's clear from my comments that I don't know what's going into the space because Hilton hasn't announced what business is going to be the new leasee.
Is there now something you don't understand about what I have posted.
Just checking in to find out if there had been any change of mind by Hilton...I guess not.
I did see a segment about this on Fox News today...I wonder if it will help?
Keep up the good fight, Coop...please let me know if there is anything I can do...I really want to help.
"Can't you read? It's clear from my comments that I don't know what's going into the space because Hilton hasn't announced what business is going to be the new leasee.

First of all, from your posts it is clear that you do think you know something that no one else knows.
Second, YOU are the one that keeps suggesting that some other business goes into the place where Fran O'Brien's is now located. Hilton could very well add new accomodations that are part of their own business establishement.
Third, you still don't get that the Fran O'Brien's was led to believe that the lease would be renewed until very short time before being told that the lease would not be renewed.
Fourth, you are the one ignoring the statement by Hilton that the reason Fran O'Brien's would not have the lease renewed was because of potential lawsuits if the military men/women got injured on Hilton property.
Oh, and one other thing. Yes I can read. That is why I have responded they way that I did.
Maybe you need to go back and look at your presumptions and the article and see the mismatch.
