For voters who did not recognize Bill Pierce when he dropped by Lucas County yesterday, here is a hint for future reference: He was the guy smiling big.
He is a Republican running for U.S. Senate, and his grin was understandable. The night before, he watched the Fulton County Republican Party stiff-arm his prime competitor, incumbent GOP Sen. Mike DeWine.
The county party could not decide whether to endorse Mr. Pierce or David Smith, another little-known candidate, but its decision to essentially rank Mr. DeWine third on the list "ought to send a significant warning blast across the bow of USS Mike DeWine," Mr. Pierce said.
Mr. Pierce fired several shots of his own in an hour-long interview. The high school and college math teacher from the Cincinnati area criticized Mr. DeWine over government spending, oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, a controversial deal on President Bush's judicial nominees, and the senator's commitment to Ohio and to conservative principles.
Voters see Mr. DeWine only when he is campaigning for re-election, Mr. Pierce said, and the senator "views the government coffers as being a great big bottomless pot of gold."
Mr. Pierce's platform includes shrinking the federal government and national debt, eliminating the Department of Education, and cutting federal regulations. His experience includes running his own engineering firm and battling the federal government over allegations the business violated labor laws. His name recognition and campaign funds pale to Mr. DeWine's.

Four out of the five times Mike DeWine was involved in ballot-based county endorsement proceedings, he failed to win. He LOST in Knox County (to Pierce), he LOST in Clermont County (to Pierce), he LOST as noted above in Fulton County (to Pierce and Smith), and he could only tie Pierce in Preble County. DeWine's sole win was in Miami County.
The grass-roots does not like Mike DeWine, and I mean REALLY doesn't like him.
The grass roots is responding to Bill Pierce who, as you can see from the article, is a genuine conservative and will be the citizen legislator our Founders envisioned, in the mold of a Coburn or DeMint.
Bill Pierce needs our support.

My personal bumper sticker graphic:
Mike DeWine has only two allies: Apathy, and Inertia. Bill Pierce can crush both of them on May 2 if we support him now, and if Ohio conservatives turn out and vote the issues in the voting booth. Let's roll.
Separated at birth?
I don't care if Republicans lose that seat so long as that Rat DeWine is sent packing!
Thankfully, if Pierce wins, I don't see that happening. The base will be fired up by Blackwell already, and Pierce will only add to the strength of the base against far far lefties Strickland and Brown. The party should be expected to pour money in to protect against a Brown win.
I hope so.....I really think the GOP should start purging RINOS like McCain,DeWine, but most of all Specter....He is killing our chances of getting our judges through.
What planet you been on? Thanks to some crafty GOP manuevering such as the "Gang of 14" con job on the rats, virtually ALL of "our judges" got through.
"...the GOP should start purging RINOS like McCain, DeWine, but most of all Specter...."
Specter is a Republican?
(Sarc.)
Saad, did not get through,Kavanaugh did not get through,Myers did not get through.....we have had only 1 appeals judge in 9 months!
The primaries are the crucible. Who emerges from them victorious is the strongest candidate. If he is rightward of the Democrat alternative, he deserves full, total support.
Yeah, but there's a ridiculous backlog of lower-court judges that no one is touching. I would have preferred a confrontation on the up-or-down issue to put it to bed once and for all.
But The Gang of 14 is nowhere near DeWine's worst offense. Try being against releasing gun makers from liability for how their product is used, being against ANWR, siding with the leniency crowd on illegals, spending like a crazy, etc. etc.
I am shocked he is still chairman of the judiciary.....We could have elected Toomey but we are stuck with snarlin arlin
On too many issues he is on the wrong side.
Sherrod Brown is the male version of Hillary Rodham Clinton.
He is further left than a lot of massachussetts democrats.
He is an absolute jerk too. He was with the moonbats saying bush stole the election and because of tom noe coin scandal bush's election should be taken away from him in ohio.
I don't like Dewine, but I can't stand Sherrod Brown.
I hope republicans after the primary rally around Dewine to defeat Brown.
What if he joins the Dems to block judges.....whats the point of having a Republican if he is only a little better than Brown....I have grown tired of second best.
CHAFEE must go!!!
DeWhine has also introduced gun ban renewal legislation as a co-sponsor with Fineswine . Defeat him in the primary while you can , he is vehemently anti-gun .
so not different from Brown.....Ohio needs a better choice
"Myers did not get through...."
Wasn't Harriet Miers not getting through a good thing and wasn't most of her opposition from republicans? It got on Samuel A. Alito on the supreme court.
I see post #8 adequately responds to the nonsense being peddled that "virtually all" of the judges got through. Only the high profiled judges got through. The "woman", the "Catholic" the "Minority"...the majority were thrown overboard. Nevermind that nonsense they crafted is why Alito wasn't first chosen, and why the Dems felt empowered to smear these nominees per usual tactics.
As someone that has been following the other openings aside from the Supreme Court, all I see is a growing backlog.
The majority of cases do not hit the Supreme Court.
That means those openings that DeWine helped prevent from being filled remain open. Which is exactly what he and the Liberals in the Senate want.
he deserves to lose, as does everyone a part of that dealing. Maybe this guy will get traction, would be best for the citizens of Ohio is someone other than DeWine or the Dem candidate did.
