Immigration Madness

There is only one group of people with less credibility on the immigration issue than Washington politicians. It is the illegal immigrants protesting violations of their "rights" while parading the Mexican flag and disrespecting the one symbolizing the great nation from which they're demanding favors.

I'm not talking about all demonstrators in every city in which a march occurred. Some were reportedly peaceful and even patriotic. But the hostility of some protestors did more to galvanize apathetic Americans into demanding action on immigration than all the previous alarm-warnings from politicians and pundits combined.

Nothing awakens the sleeping giant like direct threats to her sovereignty and security. And it was hard not to feel violated by the outrageous spectacle of people making demands on the very system they have circumvented instead of demonstrating some humility, if not contrition.

On the other hand, it's not hard to understand their attitude, given our shameful negligence concerning the integrity of our border and the rule of law. We hardly have clean hands either, considering our enforcement laxity and our Faustian bargain to reap the fruit of the poisonous tree by exploiting the cheap labor illegals provide. We don't even have enough respect for our laws to call violators "illegals," insisting on the euphemism undocumented workers.

If you think you're voting for the wrong party.

What choice do I have? The Dems are commies and socialists and the Pubbies are socialist-lites. And you are nuts.

You do understand that I was speaking in the second party in that post don't you? No, you don't.

The argument was for greater efficiency, I'd rather not discuss class warfare, if that's all right with you.

How disingenuous. I was right on topic. I was asking, in my rubish way, where the efficiency was in gaining $200 in purchasing power while losing $5,000 in earning power.

I know you are!

They got more balance than they bargained for,
since their "school" is telling them nothing but lies.

All this time they thought they were protesting H.R. 4437,
it was the DUMB DONKS that put the "felony" language in it.

Most just want a green card and not citizenship, unless its to get more benefits

I disagree with this. Most of them want open borders with no need to have a green card. They don't want to pay taxes for the benefits they recieve. They want to continue to work for under the table wages, just look at how many people did not take advantage of Reagan's amnesty offer. They want to have their own communities where they can continue to speak only Spanish in the US and still be able to go back and forth across the border freely.

If worse comes to worse and they give another amnesty offer to the illegal aliens, I can guarantee you that not even half of them will apply. They will just continue to defy our laws and stay here because they know we have too many do-gooder conservatives and idiot liberals that will whine if anyone tries to deport them.

Furthermore, I'm arguing that if we made them all legal, we could reap many benefits, so of course it supports that point, as well.

Of course then they would demand health care, retirement bennies, paid vacation, family leave and sick days. The employers would let them go and find some new illegals.

What I love is that the press is actually covering that for a change. Maybe the MSM wised up a little and decided they didn't want to be too much to blame when the "immigrants" start burning cities.

Furthermore, I'm arguing that if we made them all legal, we could reap many benefits,

(1) Do you reckon that many of the benefits to be reaped would be of the social welfare variety, by the now-legals, and paid for by taxpayers? Low education legal persons are quite costly.

(2) Who is the "we" to whom you refer? Employers profit directly from importation of illegals whose social upkeep is paid by taxpayers. It is therefore a subsidy. I thought economists abhorred subsidies.

(3) If each additional immigrant has a marginal benefit, does that continue until 4 billion immigrants populate the U.S.? If not, where does it stop? If you can't answer when it stops, why should we impute any validity to your answer of "not yet" ?

Enough of this mindless banter and snide remarks!

Group-think doesn’t seem to be working here. As a whole we seem to be getting no ware.

Will someone smart thoroughly define this problem; isolate its facts, and present workable/particle solutions to those facts.

OUR PART: implement these solutions by whatever means necessary. If these means cleaning house in our political organizations and removing dead weight, those whom would ignore the will of the people, district-by-district; then let’s get it done.

A Leader(s) must come forward who can rally and motivate the body politic to do what is necessary to ensure that the ideas and spirit of this republic thrive and survive long into the future.

I wonder what my forefathers would think and do with our state of affairs today. Would they continue to do nothing? I think not!

They were men and women who believed. They believed there was a better way to live and a better way for their sons, their daughters, and their fellow man. They believed in it so strongly that did what was necessary to change the course of history. Bringing fourth a nation that surpassed any European empire and even the Roman Empire itself.

I would compel those among us who and capable to come forward and take up the leadership challenge. Yes it is a challenge; but if you are successful, your service to this nation will ensure its spirit thrives for generations to come.

As for the rest of us, we must seek-out and encourage a leader(s) to come forward and take up the challenge to serve this nation and its people.

We have much to hope for and so vary much to loose.

In parting, here is quote from the Limbaugh article that began this thread:

I'm far less sympathetic to the economic concerns, believing that whatever benefits we are reaping are offset by the drains on our entitlement programs. It is unfortunate that some view the immigration issue, like they do everything else, from a purely economic perspective. Economic growth and prosperity are wonderful, but they are not a panacea, and are an unacceptable tradeoff for the disintegration of our culture and the implosion of our constitutional system.

A parting thought also for republicagal, from David Limbaugh:

It is even more regrettable that some choose to tar all those who are serious about immigration as racists or nativists. It is a vicious and dishonest ploy mostly by those who are willing to subordinate almost everything good and decent to partisan politics. We have no unique ethnicity in this country. What makes us unique are the God-fearing, egalitarian principles embodied in the Constitution and sustained by the rule of law.

I saw it on O'Reilly I think. Also Bush referred to it as Harry Reid's manipulation of the political process. Something like that. Finally he uses his bully pulpit. Bah! Now I'm mad again. He whips the Dems on their demagoguing in order to push them into giving us an amnesty faster. Er, not us, the ILLEGAL FOREIGN NATIONALS WHO MAKE THEIR DEMANDS WITH THREATS! AIYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

If the elected government selectively refuses to uphold the sovereign laws of the land then what other laws will the elected government refuse to uphold.

Already in my life time we the people have lost our right to imminent domain protection and campaign free speech as guaranteed under the Constitution.

A lot of men and women died for those rights but with one swell swoop of 9 men and an inattentive congress they were taken away.

Now we are led to believe because some do not what to enforce the written laws concerning immigration, then those laws should not be obeyed.

Each Illegal Alien incarcerated costs US prison system $38,000 ea. year not counting other amenties. Mexicans statements are splitting hairs as usual just to demean posters, not to communicate honestly. ALLTROLLS.

Would like to know address of Mexican Foreign Minister so that US citizens could bombard them with costs of their errant citizens and file for costs of repatriation, medical, social security, income tax, NAFTA which has been reniged by them, costs for road repairs and on and on.

Mexicans do not have any ENTITLEMENTS. MOST mexicans ARE paid in cash, without being reported to government and get more than they pay in from US welfare, medical, education systems, use of roads, streets, lighting, theft, police protection, ....... If they become legal, bring every cousin for hundereds of generations into this country with false documents or illegal and take jobs that US citizens should have but are chased away by mexican nepotism. Americans end up on welfare (additional cost penalty due from mexicans).

I'm not aware that Mexico has a culture or economic structure worth saving or of any value whatsoever to US. It is mexicans who come here to be used as "fodder" by politicians, including Marxists, communists.
