If pro-life is important to you (as it is to me), you should be aware that Allen has in the past departed a bit from a fully pro-life position.

My understanding is that he has supported legal abortion in the very early stages.

He will need to clarify this ... but as a Senator he has been solidly pro-life ... and there is little doubt that he would appoint strongly conservative judges when the time comes.

Those were two very reasoned comments on George Allen.

In my opinion Allen is honest, Conservative enough, southern enough, and most of all, electable!

I don't agree with everything he has said or done, but he has the best chance in 2008 of being elected, over anyone the RATS have to offer.

Indeed, Allen only supports legal abortion in the rare cases of incest, rape and when the life of the mother is at risk because of the pregnancy. Together, these special cases account for only 1.3% of all abortions.

Allen opposes partial-birth abourtion and abortions where the fetus is viable, with or without life support.

He opposes public funding of abortions and public funding of organizations that advocate or perform abortions.

He favors waiting periods and notification requirements as decided by each state government.

Senator Allen supported the interests of the NARAL Pro-Choice America 0 percent in 2001 - 2005.

Senator Allen supported the interests of the National Right to Life Committee 100 percent in 2003-2004 and 2001-2002.

1996-2003 Senator Allen supported the interests of the Planned Parenthood (Senate) 0 percent in 1996-2003.

1995-2004 On the votes that the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Assocation considered to be the most important in 1995-2004, Senator Allen voted their preferred position 0 percent of the time.

Allen is prolife only if there are noticable "brain waves". he is Pro Abortion in other cases. I also heard something, but not confirmed yet, that he said the law in SD was too strict and he would have vetoed it.

That is not a good position if you ask me.
