I was just looking at Allens website for his senate re-election bid, his philosophy on Government is near perfect!! He has an all American family and his wife just has that first lady look to her which complements George's Presidential leadership 'vibe' Any FReepers know more about allen? Is his name being tossed around for 2008?

Even McPain gets it, and I'm suggesting that this has a whole lot less to do with Allen and more to do with stink attached to him by virtue of being a senator. If he doesn't take off in the first couple of primaries, he is toast. Enter McCain, Clinton, Biden, Gore, Edwards, Kerry, Lieberman, - and that's just a recent short list and you've got a recipe for failure in flyover counties. This country, IMO, will not elect a senator, any senator. It would be a terrible precedent to set at least for the coming generation if the past generation is any indication.
It is too bad that you have a dem governor, else he could resign from the senate, take a high profile WH position in the meantime and shed that senate baggage to be considered a serious candidate.

Allen has a long standing history with the NFL...his dad, his brother, and more.

Ironically as dismal as 2006 could be if the republicans cannot fix their RINO illnesses, our Canadian socialist, union slurping, Kerry slobbering governor is going to get picked off. It's a 43-43% tie right now and the race is just getting started. Any incumbent under 50% is pretty much SOL.
I think the country might be in better shape if Senators actually paid attention to things more important than football. There! I said it! There are things more important than football, which is a GAME. An overpaid, overhyped, GAME. :)
It's Allen's way of reminding people who dad was. That's why the dang football is in every family picture, even the dressed up ones, where it looks ludicrous.
And frankly, he seems to be a nice enough guy, but you were asked to list things he had shown leadership on, and that was your list? With the possible exception of nanotechnology, it was pretty lightweight.
If you think honoring Pat Tillman was about football, I hope you'll excuse me if I don't take your criticism of U.S. senators too seriously.

So you don't like football. Fine. That takes nothing away from the fact that Pat Tillman, a former pro football player gave his life in service to protect YOUR right to not watch football. Sorry that doesn't mean anything to you.
As for the list, it was a random sampling. But a pretty darn impressive one. I noticed you ignored the work he did for the NRSC, as well as his standing up to the RATS buffoonery, AND calling for fiscal accountability in government.
I guess those don't mean anything to you either.
I can tell you that a lot of Virginia government employees hate him because of job cuts and lots of ex-VA government employees love him for the buy-out that provided for a bunch of early retirements. I love the fact that Mrs. Allen doesn't hesitate to wear a nice fur coat - bless her heart. We'll never have an ideal candidate - the ideal would never run. We'll never reconcile the conflict inherent in the two factions of conservatism - social vs fiscal. In the meantime, I figure Allen will do.
Do you take my blanket criticism of senators colloquially and that inept legislative body? Has the senate majority done anything for you lately that you would brag about?
And why would a particular member of that same body be excused from 'The Great Compromise?'
It's great to see support for leadership, especially if you have someone you can promote, but to deny the negatives of a U.S. senator running for high office is stupendous.
How is it any different than denying the positives?
At least he wasn't one of 'the gang of seven'.
LOL, when it comes to just about any aspect of the senate I go from a generally reasonable person to just about irrational. I just have to tell myself that 1/3 of them are up for 'disposal' every two years. ;-)
Fine. :) I take more substantive legislation seriously. So we differ.
I do like football. Especially college ball, and an old friend of the family is one of the "winningest" coaches in college football history. But I have a sense of proportion when it comes to football; it's a game. It's not something on which to base holiness or national policy. And that coach would agree, too. ;-D
