I was just looking at Allens website for his senate re-election bid, his philosophy on Government is near perfect!! He has an all American family and his wife just has that first lady look to her which complements George's Presidential leadership 'vibe' Any FReepers know more about allen? Is his name being tossed around for 2008?
The Allen Family (left to right): Forrest, Brooke, Susan, George and Tyler
"Legal immigration has been and continues to be the life blood of our nation; my mother legally immigrated to America. Unfortunately, illegal immigration is one of the biggest problems affecting our country today and it is undermining our economic and physical security. I believe that, first and foremost, we need to secure our borders. We need more border agents and detention centers along the border and we ought to be using technology, such as unmanned aerial vehicles, to help with surveillance. Secondly, we must not reward illegal behavior; rewarding illegal behavior will only encourage more illegal actions."
Very general and nebulous, not at all vote-stimulating.
Just what we need another inarticulate, big spending, go along - get along, privileged frat boy who never had a job that didn't involve spending taxpayer money. Don't say how he cut the budget as Gov cuz the minute he got to the Senate... Farm bill...yes Highway bill....yes Medicaid expansion...yes Energy fiasco of a bill....May Crude Fri up at $69.65...yes But since he's pro-life that makes everything OK.
Interesting that you quote the Washington Blade. But the information is correct. That article is from April of 2004
Those are just the results of a google search, the fastest reference I had to post information I knew was correct. CWA I recommend as a general source, the Washington Blade was merely for this one reference as I haven't vetted the site.
The bottom line is that Allen has waffled on pro-life issues, on gay-agenda issues, and is not opposed to granting an amnesty to illegal aliens.
I won't vote for such a candidate.
I'd vote for George Allen for President...
He does give a good speech ... and he starts with a sunny, regular-guy personality ... people tend to just like him.
The most "impressive" of the potential candidates ... as far as smooth talking, quick thinking television skills ... is Romney.
Maybe a bit too slick, though ... I think Allen might wear better in the long run.
Socially conservative yes.
Fiscally since he got in the Senate he drank the kool-aid and has been spending money like he hates the stuff .
So what you're saying is that George Allen didn't feel the need for a federal marriage amendment before he felt the need for one. He didn't think there was anything wrong with adding homosexuals to hate crimes legislation before he thought that there was something wrong with it. Finally, he didn't think that there was anything wrong with amnesty and guest workers before he did.
Sounds an awful lot like a Candidate named Kerry.
Wishy-washy on immigration. Depends which way the wind is blowing. Supported him till recently but he's become a politician - an example of the need for term-limits.
We've been over this DOZENS of times. His pro-life record is as good or better than any of the other viable candidates.
But don't let the facts get in the way of your hysteria.
I heard on NPR last night of all places, John Fund from the WSJ and another republican consultant discussing this very topic. It was what I wanted to hear as I was beginning to think I was the only one who saw what is coming, at least around here.
They were adamant about dems picking up seats because conservatives ARE NOT going to support RINOs (they called them moderates) as they won't support them. They stated the the republicans have all the power but have abandoned their principles that got them there in the first place.
They essentially said the WH and the party has got 6-8 to turn it around or say goodbye.
They musta' said Bush is a republican but governs like a liberal a dozen times.
Heck...I'll encourage everyone I meet to vote for him too!
You missed the point. I'm not surprised.
Disagree with Allen all you like. Regardless of his views about the first trimester, he has long been a friend of the pro-life movement.
Look it up. I've posted it all over FR.
Don't like him. Don't vote for him.
But get your facts right.
Hi, CS ... I guessed I've missed your explanations elsewhere ... and I haven't heard Sen. Allen clarify this.
Does Sen. Allen still support legal abortion up until brain wave activity?
If so, isn't that a bit different from Bush, Frist, McCain, and most other Republican pro-lifers, who (at least in theory) oppose all abortions except for rape, incest, life of mother?
Who is your guy in 2008?
If 2006 is a self-imposed disaster, imagine 2008. Not to be called a heretic, but if the republican party does not get its act together it is feasable to lose both the executive and legislative branches in one fell swoop.
That's when the gains in SCOTUS will be wiped out. The sleepy Ginnys and the other liberal rot on the panel will retire only to be replaced by more of the same poison.
Be afraid.
Dear Oliver Optic,
"Does Sen. Allen still support legal abortion up until brain wave activity?"
From what I understand, Sen. Allen believes that individual states have the right to decide what precisely their own abortion laws should be. Thus, he affirmed the right of South Dakota to pass an extremely pro-life law banning all abortions.
His own belief is that the ideal is to ban abortions after brain-wave activity commences.
Since even that rather limited restriction directly conflicts with the central holdings of Roe (and its companion, Doe), it is reasonable to assume (although I've never actually read or heard him say it just so) that he believes Roe (and Doe) must go.
From my perspective as an extreme pro-lifer, I can easily live with a President George Allen if he appoints Supreme Court Justices who recognize that the Constitution doesn't recognize or protect any "right" to abortion, and who will thus fully overturn Roe as being the bad hallucination of a derelict old man supported by six equally derelict morons back in 1973.
sitetest
He's got my vote unless he turns RINO on us.
And on that score I have more confidence in Allen than McCain or Frist and others.
But that position of Allen's will be subject to scrutiny by hundreds of thousands of pro-life voters in the months to come.
