I was just looking at Allens website for his senate re-election bid, his philosophy on Government is near perfect!! He has an all American family and his wife just has that first lady look to her which complements George's Presidential leadership 'vibe' Any FReepers know more about allen? Is his name being tossed around for 2008?
The Allen Family (left to right): Forrest, Brooke, Susan, George and Tyler
Uh, I know that. That doesn't change the fact that it was rolling through and our best option was to get the best (lousy) deal that we could.
And trust me, George Allen has the leadership qualities. He exhibited them as Governor and as Chair of the NSRC.
Sen. George Allen (R.-Va.) answered that he would not rule out legalizing illegals.

This makes him unacceptable to me.
If you don't understand that politics is all about give and take, you really shouldn't be involved.
I've come to this conclusion too..................
I'm just a citizen, a tax payer, and a voter.
I'm not a political operative anymore.
I don't want to be involved in politics and I expect my representitives in government to represent me, my family and my neighbors, not just the lobbyists and their masters.
So I'll take your advice and stop being involved.
Okie doke. Can we consider that your last post?
You may consider anything you wish.
If he is nominated, I will vote for Sen. Allen.
He's not perfect, but he's pretty darned good.
I'll have to add that it's not just the feds. The RINOism at my state level (MI) is as bad or worse. These republican clowns pull the same stunts as the feds. There are many layers of RINO contempt.
Dear Sturm Ruger,
I've read before that his preference would be to permit abortions during most of the first trimester of pregnancy.
However, in that he believes the states have a right to restrict abortion as they see fit, he implies that Roe must go.
That'll get him a passing grade from me.

Allen has a gentlemanly, slow, Southern way of speaking which works against him in quick TV soundbites. By the time he's halfway through one sentence, they cut him off. He has to talk faster.
I'd never seen or heard Allen until a few months ago when I caught the end of a speech of his on C-Span. I missed the speech, actually, but saw him talking to the crowd afterward and he knocked my socks off. I was very impressed and thought, Oh, boy, where have you been all this time? Then saw him on Fox or MSNBC. He was one of several on a panel, supposed to give quick answers to something or other. He hardly opened his mouth and they'd cut him off. Then saw him being questioned outside a senate chamber. Same thing. He'd hardly said Boo, and they cut him off. I came to the conclusion that he needs, really needs, to take a speed talking course. However, he listens to people and treats them with courtesy and dignity. No small thing.
I'm heartened by your comments.
Virginians are lucky to have Allen as one of their senators. Let's hope and pray -- Please God -- he gets reelected. (I speak -- covered with shame -- from looneytunes MA.)
You're right. Republicans are in trouble because they allowed dems and the MSM to define every issue and then scream lie after lie for weeks and months with little or no rebuttal. However, events may overtake this discussion about coming elections. Iran, for instance. (Less than two weeks to some kind of deadline there.) If we take care of business with Iran, clean up Iraq, if Syria decides to come to heel, if the administration rams through a sensible immigration bill that fixes the border...well, a lot of 'if's'.
You didn't really mean that...'Honestly, how different would it be if Kerry had been elected?' God help us.
Unfortunately, I did.
Allen is my choice! I hope he can overcome the duplistic mccainiacs.
This is why a Hillary term does not scare me much, again only legislation speaking. She won't get anything through and I'm not sure that is a bad thing. Never thought I say this - but her winning is quite possible if conservatives stay home. We are not going to support RINOs and continue to push the party to the center.

On June 15, Sen. George Allen (R-Virginia) horrified his constituents when he cast a vote against family values by adding sexual orientation to the Federal Hate Crimes Act. Sen. Allens support of the homosexual lobby directly contradicts his promise during his campaign for U.S. Senate in 2000 to oppose pro-homosexual legislation.

Sen. George Allen (R-Va.) opposes same-sex marriage but has yet to join his GOP colleagues who have come out in support of the Federal Marriage Amendment

Human Events Online wanted to know where Senate Republicans stood on open borders/amnesty, so it asked them:
The key question: Will the Senate approve an amnesty for illegal aliens?
The editors of Human Events define amnesty as granting any kind of legal residency status to an illegal alien without first making him return to his home country.
The immigration bill passed by the House in December does not include an amnesty.
Last week, we asked all 55 Republican senators (via their press secretaries): Will you rule out voting this year for an immigration reform bill that converts illegal immigrants to legal guest workers without making them return to their home countries first?
Most did not answer our question, but several senators did respond. We intend to keep asking. You can, too, by using the contact information below.

Based on this, I'd say that George Allen is not the sort of conservative that we need to nominate in 2008, and that if he was to be nominated, I would not vote for him.
If pro-life is important to you (as it is to me), you should be aware that Allen has in the past departed a bit from a fully pro-life position.
My understanding is that he has supported legal abortion in the very early stages.
He will need to clarify this ... but as a Senator he has been solidly pro-life ... and there is little doubt that he would appoint strongly conservative judges when the time comes.
