From Polipundit this morning. It seems very apropos for commentators like Tony:

The GOP and Immigration

John Hawkins on the GOP leadership and illegal immigration:

Here’s a hint for all the Rockefeller Republicans in the Senate and Gerald Ford, Jr.’s in the White House: it doesn’t matter how many Mexican flag-waving illegal aliens march in the streets demanding that they be allowed to break the law with impunity. Illegal aliens can’t vote. On the other hand, your base does vote, and they’re chewing up steel girders and spitting out nails over this issue. Moreover, according to Zogby, (who admittedly, you have to take with a grain of salt) your base opposes the McCain-Kennedy bill and the “compromise"/capitulation Republicans in the Senate almost signed onto, by an almost 6 to 1 margin.

So, in an election year, when the Republicans are doing poorly, we have the GOP taking a position on a crucial, high profile issue that is wildly unpopular with the majority of the American people and about as popular as creating a, “We Hate Ronald Reagan,” holiday with the base.

The Republicans in Washington are being sent a message here that might as well be in 50 foot high neon letters and it reads, “You can toe the line on illegal immigration or the voters will bury you under it at the ballot box in November.” It’s not too late for the GOP to save their jobs and a Republican majority in Congress, but they better take the hint.

Thanks me too. I was beginning to think a conspiracy was a foot to keep me from the Snowman! I am reading "Rebel in Chief", finally. What an awesome book.

When The Pressure Is On

Read:
Romans 5:1-5

We also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance. —Romans 5:3

Bible In One Year: 1 Samuel 22-24; Luke 12:1-31

cover What makes a shiny apple look so delicious? The skin, of course. But what is it about an apple that actually makes it delicious? The juice and substance inside. That's the apple's real "character."

I learned this as a boy watching my mom make applesauce. With a wooden pestle, she would mash the soft, boiled pieces of apple through a metal colander and into a bowl, until all that remained in the colander were drab, flattened skins. But oh, the sauce tasted so good!

God uses life's pressures to bring out the sweetness of Christlike character in us. Tribulation (which means "pressure" in the Greek) also helps us realize the awful potential of our sin nature and see it for what it is—ugly and tasteless. Under pressure, all kinds of sins begin to surface—greed, selfishness, lust, pride.

Pressure, whether from without or from an unrealistic perfectionism within, is a fact of our fallen world. God controls its intensity and duration so that we can recognize, confess, and renounce those fleshly "skins" that obscure Christ's character in us.

Tribulation is not something anyone seeks. But when it comes, the Holy Spirit will use it to create in us perseverance, character, and hope (Romans 5:3-4). —Dennis De Haan

All God's testings have a purpose—
Someday you will see the light;
All He asks is that you trust Him,
Walk by faith and not by sight. —Zoller

The gem of Christlike character is formed by pressure and refined by friction.

William LaJanesse (sp? mangled) on Fox News had a piece on the years and years wait to get to the US the "right" way. Tony..I hope you will have William on your show. The law regarding the process was last really changed by LBJ and it today is a travesty in which legal immigration can take as much as 20 years. If you are going to stop ILLEGAL immigration you have to also fix LEGAL immigration, which means FIX the LAW and FIX BICE.

Thank you for that cc; I needed it. Waiting to hear Tony on the following:

"Many conservatives are still up in arms over the immigration debate. Maybe they should listen to the words of one of the godfathers of the conservative movement, Ronald Reagan, who welcomed immigrants to America with open arms. Tony has more...

Even the revered RR was not right 100% of the time. Love you Tony, but I sure hope this isn't going to be a lecture on how eeevil and/or stupid border security and national sovereignty supporters are.......
