Last two:
The Great Raid
The Prize Winner of Defiance Ohio
I think we got lucky with these two. But then, I'm biased. We're trying to avoid all the Academy Award trash and go other ways.
The Great Raid is well reviewed by conservative sources. It's about a real raid to rescue American POWs held by the Japanese in WWII. It's tense. Maybe a little bit monochrome. Probably improves with a second viewing.
My wife picked the Prize Winner of Defiance Ohio. She read the Movie Gallery review. Like the Great Raid, it has some basis in reality. At one point, the heroine says that she isn't a saint. But she really is a heroic and saintly person (as portrayed). She is a great example to all of us. From a Christian standpoint, a true Christian, IMHO. This also probably benefits from a second viewing.
Before, these two, Narnia stands out.
