(CNN) -- Pakistani helicopter gunships converged Wednesday night on a suspected terrorist compound near the Afghan border, killing "a number" of militants, including some foreigners, according to a military statement read on Pakistani television.

"A U.S. intelligence official said that Pakistan was still trying to determine who was killed or captured and that it was too early to tell if any high-level terrorist operatives were among them."

The attacks come the night after an explosion ripped through a stage at Nishtar Park, killing dozens in Karachi, the nation's largest city.

Interesting. It seems that the pakistanis use Cobras and Hind-D gunships. Lookup Pakistani gunship on images.google.com and you will see some interesting pics.

we probably are limited on our # of times we can hit them with UAV's so we just give pakistan some of our high tech stuff and contract out the missile strikes to them... works for me as long as they hit the right people. :-)

I have to wonder at the game plan of these terrorists sometimes. You would think that they have a vested interest in keeping things relatively calm inside the country where they have found refuge? Why risk provoking your unwilling "host" to get really serious about your presence inside their borders?
