PETATLAN, Mexico Unidentified assailants lobbed a grenade inside a restaurant near Mexico's Pacific coast today, injuring about 40 people.

Several people were celebrating the birthday of the local mayor's chauffeur when the incident happened in the town of Petatlan (peh-TAHT'-lahn), about 100 miles northwest of Acapulco.

The mayor wasn't present.

The attack is the second in three days along the Pacific coast. Late Monday night, assailants threw a grenade at a home in the resort city of Acapulco, wounding two men and three women.

Acapulco Mayor Felix Salgado said the attack was carried out by members of an organized criminal gang. But police say they have no immediate leads in the Petatlan incident early this morning.

More of the political culture that our leaders think is just great for average Americans to get to know. While they 'view with concern' from inside their gated communities or guarded villas.

Just throwing grenades that Americans don't want to throw.

Just throwing grenades that Americans don't want to throw.

Not the first mention of grenades playing a part in Mexican politics, either.

The border has suffered from increased violence in recent months, thought to be the work of drug smugglers. Perry said the situation has become more serious recently and threats have been lodged against law-enforcement officers and their families.

He also cited the discovery of a criminal group's weapons stockpile in Laredo that included explosive devises and fragmentation hand grenades.

The more pressure we keep on Mexico, immigration-wise, the more reformers
inside of Mexico can be emboldened and empowered to scale back monopolists'
abuses down there which keep our own country flooded with economic refugees.
Here's an interesting new thread on new legal reform progress that finally
emerged in Mexico I think as a result of immigration reform's failure:

We can make a difference for our sake, and their's as well. Isn't it the
neighborly thing to do?

So you're against fixing Mexico for our own country's benefit as a trading partner and neighbor?

Right now we have 11 million Mexicans in this country who need to go back home and fix their own country. We have a huge deficit with Mexico from NAFTA. They are sidling up with China and if I read correctly some middle eastern pack. All of this under V. Fox.

I believe in that old saying "fences make good neighbors."
Mexico has been a lousy neighbor.

I don't disagree with anything that you just said, Texastoo. I do think that legal reforms in Mexico against its corrupt and exploiting monopolies could make a difference in luring some Mexicans back when our own politicians still won't send them. And such legal reforms in Mexico are on the verge of emerging:
