i know that if called to i will join the fray...

i know the playbook is out there and the other team will use it to their apparent advantage...

foolishly of course...

Read Ezekiel 38-39.

The invading army gets crushed.

Paging Hal Lindsey. Mr. Lindsey, they're playing your song.

Whoops -- Mr. Lindsy is busy entertaining wife number 3. Or is it number 4 by now?

Awfully catty for someone named Tom.

In retrospect, I am far more offended by the major role teachers like this played in aborting the Jesus Movement. Millions of young people passionate, eager to do great things for God's glory, diverted off into puerile speculations and discrediting lunacies.

Easily diverted?! The Parable of the Sower seems appropriate here. I guess the Holy Spirit is less powerful after all than ol' Hal, then.

Excellent reply. God will achieve His desired goals. However, woe unto those who offend, bamboozle, and misdirect His little ones!

I agree about bamboozlement (Greek? Hebrew? Aramaic?) and misdirection. Offending, however, is inevitable and, off the top of my head, is nowhere scripturally prohibited. But that's nitpicking (English-American slang) your important caution.

Being in a position myself, both in my employment and my ministry, where my actions are highly visible to "His little ones" (Smedley), I am careful, with the Holy Spirit's prompting, guidance, empowerment, and help (Bible), to avoid the very errors you cite.

May our GOd's favor rest upon your family, life, and ministry as you direct people towards greater joy and fruitfulness for the Kingdom.

("Prophecy teaching" is a cancer on the body of Christ that works against both of those desired goals.)

Interesting, but what then is the measured Christian response?

depends on which view you have on the 2d coming. if you believe the great tribulation is coming, and likely will begin about the time iran or one of its friends starts nuking israel, and if you're a believer in pre-tribulation rapture, you won't care, you believe you'll be called up right before or as it happens.

I don't believe the "don't care" attitude is appropriate towards a billion of our fellow human beings, as well as the world that "God so loved."

Why not start asking God to discredit Islam on a global scale? Then start befriending muslim students right here? Maybe even study Farsi, or Turkish, or Arabic, so that you can be ready to pitch in and help out when Islam does fall?

The appeal of "prophecy teaching" is the excuse it gives us to sit on our hands, since God has ordained the failure of His gospel, anyhow. And who are we to try to resist God?

i'm sorry.. i meant, militarily, not caring what the outcome is- after all, how many soldiers will be left to fight islam in armageddon if they're raptured away first?

You make my point. Defeatist speculations emasculates Christian endeavor. Along with undermining the credibility of the gospel. Serving as an unpaid cheerleader for the other team is not, I would think, a reasonable way to solicit God's blessings.

unfortunately those are the views of too many Christians. spread the word, be pacifists, turn the other cheek and take too much of the NT out of context, don't worry about tomorrow, God will take care of it in his time.

my personal view is a view held by too few. i'd rather follow OT laws of warfare.

Look’n For the End of Time

Looking for the end of time’s
a goddamn crime;
Preachers on the TV spitt’n
goddamn slime.

“Christ knows we’ll always have the poor”
to kick around the church-yard door;
But when it comes to Holy War
The Saints go marching out like Thor

Each time we hear the sound of bombs
the Saints break out in Holy Pslams;
searching in books and reading palms
usurp the place of giving alms.

The people of the Middle East
are God’s own fodder;
When you see that train a com’n
be sure to holler!

“Praise the Lord and pass the bullets”—
what a bucket of holy bullshit.
“The time of Christ is drawing near”—
just like it was each time before.

According to “God’s Prophetic Clock,”
the Jews are in for quite a shock;
and Muslims? They ain’t got a prayer
cause even God Himself don’t care.

And there upon the sacred screen
the women bleed and children scream;
“Hell no I can’t spare a dime,
I’m look’n for the end of Time!”
