Corning Inc.'s chairman, James Houghton, and Senator Clinton in 2005 at
the company's headquarters.

Corning Inc., one of upstate New York's largest and oldest employers, has supported Republican candidates for so long that its chairman once joked that it had not raised money for a Democrat since 1812.
But since Hillary Rodham Clinton was elected to the Senate in 2000, Corning and its mainly Republican executives have become one of her largest sources of campaign contributions. And in that time, Mrs. Clinton has become one of the company's leading champions, delivering for it like no other Democratic lawmaker.
In April 2003, a month after Corning's political action committee gave $10,000 to her re-election campaign, Mrs. Clinton announced legislation that would provide hundreds of millions in federal aid to reduce diesel pollution, using, among other things, technology pioneered by Corning. It was one of several Congressional initiatives Mrs. Clinton has pushed that benefit the company.
And in April 2004, Mrs. Clinton began a push to persuade the Chinese government to relax tariffs on Corning fiber optics products, inviting the Chinese ambassador to her office and personally asking President Bush for help in the matter. One month after the beginning of that ultimately successful effort, Corning's chairman, James Houghton, held a fund-raiser at his home that collected tens of thousands of dollars for her re-election campaign.
It is part of a senator's job description to help a major employer in his or her home state, and it is not unusual for that employer to encourage that help or to reciprocate with campaign contributions. In Mrs. Clinton's case, her alliance with Corning provides a window into how she has used her clout as a former first lady on behalf of new constituents in her adopted home state,

Hillary Rotten Clinton ping...
Dennis Miller
;-)
"This is the right wing attack machine on crack!"
The NY Times has now joined the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy...LOL!
A Senator should help their state because its the right thing to do, but we all know the whole rotten mess is bought and p[aid forwith campaign funds, Hillary isnt the only one bought and paid for on Capitol Hill. I dont like the wench but this is nothing new, for a Senator to be owned by big business.
No question...but the news here is that the Times is going after her. Otherwise, this is a "dog bites man" story.
If Corning isn't careful, it will go the way of Kodak.
Ping to an upstate New York article.
Useful idiots? Corporate welfare? They might be made for each other.
LOL!

Hitlery is getting forgetful. She forgot to turn her body one-quarter away from the camera to hide her hippo hips the way she always does for pix. (That's if there isn't a table or whatever for her to stand behind.)
Hitlery at least looks half feminine in this picture which the first one in years.
I just want to know, what the hell is she promising the Chinese?

This is worth watching.
This illustrates that not all private enterprise is capitalism.
Capitalism is individuals free to own the means of production individually or corporately without government tilting the scales.
MERCANTILISM is when the government/politicisnas HELP private enterprise by using taxes, regulations, etc to tilt towards one firm or industry and against another firm or industry.
We hate it when Hitlery does it... an appropriate use of the term Hitlery here as Mercantilism is NAZI style National Socialism sans scapegoating Jews and gypsies.
But do we need to be consistent about the "good Republicans" who also practice Mercantilism and try to HELP business?
They also are from the government and here to help.
Interesting. I never knew the difference--thanks for the info.
Let's remember, one of the lines of attack against her is that she "hasn't done anything for NY" (Rush even commented on this the other day). So, voila, the NYT comes out with a story to show how she has actually helped a NY business. They throw in the campaign contribution part so it's not a total puff-piece (but then talk about how everybody does it... the standard Clinton defense), but the intent is clear: Mrs. Clinton gets it done for NY! <cue Soviet National Anthem>
