It just astonishes me--though it shouldn't--how we constantly bash the MSM here, and then a story like this shows up and some of us shout "SEE?! SEE?! Bush is a traitor!!!!"

I don't see President Bush as a traitor. And I further understand that he does not control the money. Congress controls the money.

If a democrat was president right now, they would be praising how secure our borders are.

Hmmmmm. Why aren't they talking about Bush's "new America"?

THE "NEW AMERICAN"

We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.

Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende.

For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.

As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico.

George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000.

You can read the speech here.

Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:

In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. Actually, the borders have been leaking like a sieve since 1992 during the Slick Willy reign then through dubya's presidency. Unfortunately, dubya is no better than slick on illegal immigration.

Actually, the borders have been leaking like a sieve since RR granted amnesty.

It just peaked at the end of BC 2nd term.

How incredibly nonsensical. After 9-11, our borders, North and South should have been squeaky air tight. 3000 illegals still crossing daily is ridiculous!

And so your logical suggestion is to vote for the Dems.

And your logical suggestion is to continue to vote for compassionate rinos?

Selectively. I think in the case of DeWine, we can---and I will---register non-votes and if he loses, so what? His pro-amnesty, anti-ANWAR votes would not be different with Brown in there. However, if the SENATE were in danger of flipping---as bad as it is---I would hold my nose. I think the proper strategy is to selectively target RINOS and send a message to the others to straighten up. We know it's possible: from the time DeWine came in until last year, he was as solid a conservative vote (regardless of what he 'felt') as there was. But 2004 seems to have "freed" him to drift leftward, and it is that behavior we must identify and punish.

No, I do NOT advocate across-the-board handing the country over to the Dems. But there are proven ways to enforce party discipline by unelecting selective menbers.

The commies have never, ever, gone away. They are vampires of freedom, ever since the whole McCarthy thing backfired.

Communism is and was a FAILED experiment, but it is the only feasible route to power for losers.

Latin America seems particularly susceptible to totalitarian types of government. The suddenly disgruntled illegals are ripe fruit for the picking.

Huge mistake to legalize these huddled masses; they wouldn't know how to handle FREEDOM responsibly. They need to be led at all times.
