That being said, I do worry that people are reacting the same way they did to other groups and I think rather then being Racist it's a religious bias. We Catholics laugh about the Supreme Court, but others are not so happy about it.

no.. they use sertain Christians/Catholics that help portray the picture they seek to send.....
It can be so discouraging....
I am dealing with this same thing in Nite of Hope...
Many people- when they think of the Homeless- they picture bums on the street with shopping carts, pandering, and drinking from a paper bag.....
this is only 15% of the homeless community....
but it is the picture we have....
39% of them are CHILDREN under 18....
40% are FAMILIES!
85% are TEMPORARILY Homeless and with help- can be off the streets in 3 months- and can even be beyond poverty if they receive help by just being "adopted" by a church family that help them with the dire emergencies they encounter on their journey out of poverty all together...

There is a LOT of work to be done....
I have never done this before- and I am so afraid of failing.... There are so many lives that can be changed...
Do you know that we are setting up a model that will be taken nationwide...?
there are only 2 of us putting this all together- and the man I am working with- he is great- but his walk is not as strong in faith...as much as it strong in his own doing...
He is tremendous.. but the vision is big- the work is hard- and his gift is in raising money... not detail in structure- so I am building the structure all on my own.. he tries to help... but it is just not his forte'
please pray for me that I do not fail.....

No problem, being just one disaster away from being homeless myself most of my life. I know what you mean. What ticks me off about so many folks in this party I have thrown in with is that they are so rigid in their thinking. They come across heartless and cold.( which I don't believe they really are). Like they just don't get it. I have never known anyone who chose to be homeless or drug addicted, not a conscious choice. I feel uncomfortable in the Conservative Movement alot of the time.
So how can we help?

I have a hard time accepting that addiction is not a choice..
I mean- how many alcoholics are arrested in GA on Sundays when you can't buy beer? It is not like you are just overcome- can't control yourself and steal beer....LOL!
They have enough thought process to at least buy the beer on Saturday to get them through.. LOL!
or they just deal with it all day- and are miserable...
SO I am struggling with this part of the homeless community....but- I know there are groups out there that DO have the compassion for them...so I try to bring them in to do THEIR ministry... that ministry is just not mine...LOL!
It is hard to walk the line between accountability and grace...

Faith based initiatives are a Bush/GOP plan. I think some old Conservatives do come across as cold. But I also believe the Democrats "Compassion" is merely a form of slavery, It is NOT compassion to keep a whole segement of the poplulation at a substance level lifestyle with the Welfare state. Real compassion is to say "NO" when it needs to be said.
