National Review Urges Harris To Drop Senate Bid
WKMG-TV and National Review ^

The conservative magazine National Review urged Republican U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris to get out of the Senate race against incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson, saying she can't win.
"Many Floridians simply refuse to support her," the publication said in an editorial released Monday. "In February, a GOP poll of likely voters found her to have a favorable rating of just 35 percent and an unfavorable rating of 45 percent. Those numbers are fatal."
The publication said Harris should step aside and let another Republican try to beat Nelson, who it described as "a colorless career politician."
Harris has also been urged by others in the GOP to step out. Her original campaign staff gave her the same advice, then quit when she refused. Harris has pledged (on national television) to spend $10 million of her own money on the campaign (then withdrew the pledge 48 hours later.)
Last weekend she refused to talk about money and staff issues while greeting supporters in central Florida.
The Harris campaign didn't immediately return an e-mail or phone message seeking comment.

Will this be the final nail that will move KH to step aside? Of course, her hidebound supporters will start calling the National Review a CINO magazine.....

Looks like the boys at NR got a tad tipsy after an afternoon of wine spritzers.

The writing on the wall, but will Katherine Harris read it?

I'm assuming some of the NR people lurk here on FR anonymously...
Message to NR: Leave KH alone. Do your job and go after Nelson or embrace irrelevancy.

And the floor, and the ceiling, and over in the garage, and out on the deck, and down in the yard, and back by the pool, and on the front door, and on the rear-view mirrors, and even up in the skies. The writing has been everywhere..

The KH or Die Posse must be going insane, trying to somehow interpret this as a positive for the Harris campaign.
I have said for months she is a complete joke who is oblivious to the fact that she is a complete joke. She makes the GOP in Florida look bad. So do her supporters, in fact.
The fallback position of the KH Posse has been that her critics are liberals, RINOs, DUers, or worse. That was never the case, and it's an increasingly untenable position to maintain while retaining intellectual honesty.
In other words, the KH supporters who continue along that line are full of it.

The folks who keep urging Harris to stay in the race are doing her no favors.

The ones I have encountered on FR are among the most unimpressive commentators I have ever seen, in any forum, on any topic.

Katherine Harris has went through a lot for the Bush family and they didn't support her at all from the get-go. The president sells out his base and people who uphold the law.
(And no, I'm not a DUer, I'm just furious about illegals getting amnesty.)

You, Katherine Harris, and the simple masses who blindly support her are in far more danger of irrelevancy than the National Review.
To: Antoninus
It doesn't make someone irrelevant to recognize that KH is a terrible candidate for the Senate in 2006.
They're right.

I wish Harris had stayed in her Congressional district and fought on. This campaign has been a mess, and she was not ready to step to this level. It's a shame, because I would definitely support her. This thing looks to be over, though. When the key officials in the campaign all jump ship, it's never a good sign.

Whatever. I'm sick of people like these whiners trying to knock social conservatives out of major races. If you can take her out in the primary, do it. If not, shut up.

If she's such a terrible candidate, then defeat her in the primary and stop acting like a bunch of wet-diaper babies.

I'm all for her getting her arrogant, out of touch arse kicked in the primary. No wet daipers necessary.

Your anger about illegals is justified and Bush's job performance on the issue of border security is poor. But it doens't change the fact that Katherine Harris is an inept candidate.

I'm thinking that only George W. Bush himself can convince Katherine Harris to set her sights elsewhere.
