Jerry Brown: He's back
Sacramento Bee ^ | 4/10/6 | Herbert A. Sample

OAKLAND - In the foyer of his modest campaign headquarters, Jerry Brown proudly displayed a striking, life-size tile mosaic that was given his dad, Edmund G. "Pat" Brown, when he left the state attorney general's office 47 years ago to become governor.

"I'm going to be able to bring it back into the building and put it up on the wall," said Brown, who just as pridefully offered that his late father had done "a hell of a job" as attorney general.

But just a few minutes earlier, when asked whether sentimental reasons are at least partly driving him to seek the same attorney general's post his father held, Brown's reply was a quick "I don't think so."

Sell It Yourself It was a typical, seemingly contradictory moment in the political journey of Edmund G. "Jerry" Brown - a trek replete with bewildering passages.

Brown has been on the the California and national political stage for nearly four decades, sometimes as the star, sometimes as a bit player. He has been a community college trustee, secretary of state, governor for two terms, and currently mayor of Oakland.

Brown, who turned 68 on Friday, is trying once again to propel himself to statewide office. But while he insists he has grown wiser, his other well-known personality traits appear to have changed little.

At once enigmatic, vexing, brainy, Brown still has a penchant for words and deeds that appear to conflict with each other.

He also continues to wrap himself in a populist's cloak even though he has collected tens of millions of dollars for his various campaigns and at times allied himself with influential political cliques.

Jerry doesn't seem to get that for this state, his bloom is off the Rose - in this case Rose Bird, the anti-death penalty Chief Justrice who was summarily booted off the Supreme Court when it was discovered she never met a murderer she didn't like.

All California needs is to be reminded of this disastrous appointment of his to know that the last thing we can trust him with is law ENFORCEMENT. I mean -- look what he's done for Oakland.

And everyone knows that the Motor-Voter thing is designed specifically to allow illegals to vote - you're right, perhaps I'm being more optimistic than I hoped.

$20 billion annually is spent on illegals in California. That should be enough for the taxpayers to go nuts in this state, but not anymore.

Moon Beam over Sacramento of so the ancient Jerry hopes.

He can do yet again for CA what he has done for Oakland (interprise zones for terrorists).
