PRESIDENT BUSH was right to approve the declassification of parts of a National Intelligence Estimate about Iraq three years ago in order to make clear why he had believed that Saddam Hussein was seeking nuclear weapons. Presidents are authorized to declassify sensitive material, and the public benefits when they do. But the administration handled the release clumsily, exposing Mr. Bush to the hyperbolic charges of misconduct and hypocrisy that Democrats are leveling.

But the administration handled the release clumsily Oh, yeah. This is so true. Really, if you want to see how to handle a "release" with a full ration of inside-the-beltway savoir-faire, I need only refer you to the boundless cleverness of the Washington Post's handling of the famous Janet Cooke "Jimmy's World" episode.

The WP also hasn't been caught running interviews of fake Abu Gharib torturees. The corrections page for the NYT has been bizarre the past year.... so many errors ....

"The Washington post just wants to be the 'last dino off the cliff'."
Perhaps this particular dino has at least seen the cliff, and is hoping that it'll get the news to its hind legs before it gets to the edge?
