oh- so it is OUR fault people come here illegally? It is up to THEM to fix THEIR GOV'T AND THEIR ECONOMY! NOT OUR JOB!!!!

You can do better than that. My basic philosophy about immigration is as follows: What would Jesus do? I cant fault anyone for trying to support themselves and their family through an honest day's labor. It is the responsibility of government to enforce the laws that they create, not that of citizens. You and I pay taxes that fund those who defend the borders and regulate immigration. They could do their jobs more effectively if the government would let them, but they wont. I was only explaining why.

so you are for people working under the table? Plus you fail to address that these jobs- once the business owners don't have illegals to exploit with klow wages, will have to pay decent wages.....I am against business owners who conduct business LEGALLY carrying the burden of supporting medicaid, social INsecurity, etc....It is ridiculous to award illegal business practices....

If government does not enforce its own laws, then yes, I am for people working under the table to support themselves. The illegal immigrant that you call 'exploited' is making 500 to 700% more money in the U.S. then they would be making in Mexico. They don't feel exploited in any sense of the word.

LOL! The politicos are not using me...I have had the rude awakening that conservatives are abused the same way blacks are.. just by two different parties....maybe you missed my part about PINK SLIPS FOR ALL OF THEM?

Term limits? Yeah!

and what do you suppose we do for the kids abandoned by dead beat daddy? the mothers that cook every meal- do all the laundry- grocery shopping, doctors appointments, miss work and can't hold a job because no one can hire and depend on a single mother...her kids get sick, child care can be undependable...they drive crappy cars (undependable transportation)....to heck with them.?...how much does it help our economy when these kids are bound to repeat the cycle instead of having the opportunity to be contributing members of society...?

I suppose we do the same thing we do for all those American born losers. Teach through example, give with compassion, but hold them responsible for their choices.

I'm watching Matthews .. and they are going on and on about a leak Good Grief .. it wasn't a leak .. there was a release of documents Which is not unsual to release documents and disucss them with reporter AND .. these documents had nothing to do with Plame

They sooooo think they have GWB up for impeachment and that's what this is all about - the 2006 election of enough of the wack jobs so that Conyers (will be new head of House Judiciary) can resurrect his articles of impeachment and use them on GWB. That is all this is - facts have nothing to do with anything when it comes to the DemonRAT crowd of far left loony libs.

Brit at the end: Funny item on Saddam reciting poetry in court. I did not get it all but it was funny as heck.

"There once was a man from Tikrit
who criticised Saddam on the street
(missed this line)
he ended up losing his tongue, hands and feet"

You and I are thinking exactly alike when Kerry whips out his "new" Vietnam talking points about the names on the Vietnam Wall...I hold him personally responsible for a good number of them...

He should be banned from going anywhere near it.

Center for Immigration Studies

Keep in mind. This is an advocacy group. Anything it says should be carefully examined the same way anything said by Answer "Center for Peace and Justice" or the DNC would be. They are making a case, maybe they are right, but there are a lot of holes in their assumptions. This is old Washington DC tactic. Create an innocuous sounding group, throw out a "Study" and start generating factoids. Usually the Left does this. Curious how many of the Leftist tactics our side has suddenly adopted since 2004. Curious who is paying for this group.

If you are correct, why aren't the democrats and even the Republicans who support illegal immigration making charts and writing articles which reflect numbers showing how we all benefit from illegal immigrants?

Because they are cowards, basically. They would be eaten alive by the media, who has a simplistic response to anything controversial. They would lose their next election and have to get a real job in the private sector. No more free airplane rides or TV cameras.

If there were any justice in this world the next time Kerry goes near the Vietnam Wall, it would fall on him.

The people who built this country had something wonderful in the end. Picking lettuce in 100 plus degrees is not satisfying or rewarding.

You don't know your history. The immigrants sacrificed for their children and were here to escape conditions in their old countries. They were willing to take any job so they could put food on the table and a roof over their head. Americans did the same jobs. When you need money to live, the criteria of "satisfying and rewarding" aren't part of the lexicon.

Picking lettuce is a job just like plenty of other backbreaking jobs that American cititizens perform today and in the past. The idea that Americans won't pick lettuce has more to do with economics than whether a job is rewarding or not. Who do you think picked the lettuce before the illegal aliens did it? And how much of our lettuce is actually picked by non-American citizens?

Do you think we should get our own "ponytail guy" to stand up at one of his press conferences and remind him of how ashamed he should be by his hypocrisy?

Nah, it just wouldn't be the same ;'}

I was born in Texas, raised in the NY City suburbs, went to college in Texas and Boston, got married and moved to California for five years, then back to NY and then finally down here to Memphis.  My father was raised in the deep south of rural Mississippi and my mother was raised on indian reservations all across the country, mostly in the west and south.

I have figures of speech and pronounciations from all over the county and words I use regularly from several American Indian and other languages.   My accent, however, has been thoroughly homogonized by all of my moves plus a lifetime of listening to TV.  I probably sound, on balance, like I'm from Omaha.

Regional accents are rapidly disappearing and I think it's a shame.   There are many unique New York accents, Brooklyn being probably the most distinct.  Then there's the unique north New Jersey "Joisey" accents thrown in for good measure.  Boston accents and the rural Vermont and Maine accents have their charm and are distinct from the accents of the fishemen from almost the entire New England coast, which tend to have lots more in common with each other than they do with the inland accents of their own areas.  You would hardly believe that someone with a classic Boston accent and someone with a Gloucester (pronounced "gloster") accent were from the same region.

Southern accents are often lovely but just as often annoying.  I love the accents of the mountain west which have a surprising amount in common.  The more recent "California hippy" and urban "ebonics" accents are simply annoying or sources of ridicule.  And I don't care who it is or where they're from but I get livid when an otherwise intelligent sounding person says "axe" instead of "ask!"

Of course, it's often not how you pronounce something but the phrases you use.

"She lives three miles out on a two mile road" is about as southern as you can get and it doesn't require an accent to understand that. Then there's that uniquely New York way of saying "Hey, you!" Once you hear it you never mistake it for anything else. ;^>

I suppose Hillary couldn't borrow Mandissa's jeans.

Had no earthly idea who Mandissa was but figured she has a "little extra padding." Watching Fox News Live and see she got booted from American Idol. She indeed does have extra padding.

Most large farms have migrants who live and work on their property until the harvesting is over.
