Lou Dobbs Tonight
Tuesday, April 18, 2006

The War on the Middle Class continues: A big jump in gasoline prices pushed inflation at the wholesale level up in March at the fastest pace in three months. And as oil prices above $70 a barrel send consumers a high-octane warning of expensive fuel costs ahead

Groups on both sides of the aisle are lobbying the Swing Senators for their votes on immigration. Congressman Tom Tancredo is targeting three or four a day for the next week, trying to persuade them to pass meaningful border security and reform. Who are these senators that could help decide whether amnesty is granted to 20 million illegal aliens and how likely are they to stand up to the open borders lobby?

Congressman Duncan Hunter, a strong proponent of immigration reform, gives our Casey Wian an exclusive tour of the fence at the US-Mexico border.

Are we ignoring the immigration enforcement laws already on the books? The 1986 Amnesty bill put laws in place that were suppose to stop illegal immigration. Obviously, they haven’t worked.

And is our government listenng to its citizens?

# 1 Se habla entitlement - The recent pro-immigration demonstrations around the country have been a major turnoff. There is something not convincing about illegal immigrants demonstrating to claim they have inalienable rights to come here, be here, work here, become citizens here – and make all these claims in Spanish.

# 2 INVASION USA- Sex-Mex Eva Longoria: Don't deport illegals - 'Mexicans contribute an enormous amount to our society'

# 3 Dennis Prager - All Americans must see 'United 93' - I believe it is just about every American's duty to see this film. There is no gratuitous violence – if anything, Universal went out of its way to prevent us from seeing the reality of the throat-slashing of passengers and crew – but there is unremitting tension and sadness, since we all know what will happen to these unsuspecting people, and we know this is real, not fiction. There is also American heroism. People completely unprepared for an airplane flight to become their last hour alive rise to the occasion and save fellow Americans from death and from the humiliation of having their nation's capitol building destroyed.

# 4 Chavez says US warships threaten Venezuela, Cuba

Vincente Plays a WHOLE Different BallGame!

# 5 Mexico harsh to undocumented migrants- TULTITLAN, Mexico -- Considered felons by the government, these migrants fear detention, rape and robbery. Police and soldiers hunt them down at railroads, bus stations and fleabag hotels. Sometimes they are deported; more often officers simply take their money. While migrants in the United States have held huge demonstrations in recent weeks, the hundreds of thousands of undocumented Central Americans in Mexico suffer mostly in silence. And though Mexico demands humane treatment for its citizens who migrate to the U.S., regardless of their legal status, Mexico provides few protections for migrants on its own soil. The issue simply isn't on the country's political agenda, perhaps because migrants make up only 0.5 percent of the population, or about 500,000 people - compared with 12 percent in the United States.

Several Arizona lawmakers are planning to introduce their own immigration legislation, after Governor Janet Napolitano’s veto of a bill that would have criminalized the presence of undocumented immigrants in Arizona. Now that the bill has died, local lawmakers have proposed similar legislation that would apply only to Phoenix.

Congressman Pete King of New York sits down with Lou to discuss the mood in Washington surrounding immigration reform and what’s he’s been hearing from his constituents.

And Georgia is enacting tough new legislation to crack down on illegal aliens. Georgia State Senator Chip Rogers joins Lou tonight to discuss the state’s measures.
