Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Back Mitt Romney's Health Plan
NewsMax ^ | April 8 2006 | staff

Breaking from NewsMax.com

In what could be a blow to Massachusetts Republican Gov. Mitt Romney's presidential aspirations, two Democratic White House hopefuls have offered preliminary endorsements for his health care plan, which would force small businesses to offer health insurance to all uninsured employees.

"To come up with a bipartisan plan in this polarized environment is commendable," Sen. Hillary Clinton told the Associated Press on Thursday.

The Romney plan, which has already been passed by the Massachusetts legislature and is waiting the governor's signature, mimics in some ways Mrs. Clinton's own Hillarycare proposal, which crashed and burned in 1994 with disastrous political consequences.

In another sign of trouble for Romney, Hillary isn't the only Democratic presidential aspirant singing his plan's praises.

I like Milton Friedman's plan. Give everyone catastrophic coverage (paid for by current Medicare and Medicaid $$) and eliminate subsidizing health insurance. Allow anyone to have Medical Savings Accounts. This does away with all the Government bureaucrats trying to control prices and allows the market and people to decide when they really need to go to the doctor. Not the current system that encourages non-insured to run down to the local ER at no expense to them.

People are so dumb to believe that passing the burden on to the businesses will solve the health care problem. Only deregulation and incentive-oriented policies will solve the problem, truly. Every other solution is just a hidden tax increase - either on individuals or businesses.

Ya, but the void will soon be filled with people that require expensive medical care moving in from all over.

What was he thinking?

I generally agree. But I also know what would happen.

That "catastrophic" coverage would be expanded repeatedly over time until it included a toe ache. That's what politicians do... Pander for votes...

"I think Massachusetts just slit its own throat."

The only businesses that can afford to operate under this new plan is the corporations that give big money to both political parties. Very convenient.

well, that's a sure sign the idea sucks

LOL

Exactly.

I am, frankly, totally perplexed at Romney on this. Any ideas I might have been formulating towards him as a possible valuable republican - are GONE.

This is socialism far beyond Canada, England's or Frances health insurance.

The most dangerous part is what is does to mom & pops - and the penalty for anyone who does not buy insurance - taking their tax refund???

I noticed, after these things were initially spewed on TV by Romney, smiling as though he was announcing the greatest thing since Gore invented the Internet, that the news is leaving out those parts that send a chill down the spine...

The giant sucking sound is the sound of all the businesses leaving Massachusetts.

You got that right!

Taxachusetts is bad enough, but with this, businesses will be jumping ship and new ones surely will bypass locating there.

Seems like this should be the RATS game plan.
Hillary and Kerry like it\you.
They work this magic to end up picking who they want to run against.

Good grief...I just gave Howard Dean a new DNC platform.

He is not the man that I thought he was.

I am still in shock! To hear this from ANY republican, but particularly from Romney.

I now know all I need to know about Micky

Too bad the state will go totally bankrupt in the process...

Hmmmm...well now, providing this ultra-socialist/uber communist idea doesn't sprout legs outside Taxachusetts, that might not be all bad...

What was he thinking?

or "WAS he thinking"?

If this is an example of his thinking processes, I'm glad it came out now

:Could be - they didn't want someone out-socialist-isting them.

Can we dare hope that their enthusiastic endorsement of if will alert people and keep it from breaching the borders of Taxachusetts?

WE are now on alert...
