That's why I'm voting Democrat Republican in 06. :)

The Washington Post article doesn't say if the bill passed the Senate only the House. How did the Senate vote? Were changes made in the final bill?

I don't remember President Bush threatening to veto a spending bill either. I believe he did say veto or some such about the UAE port deal.

IIRC, last year Big Government Bush threatened to veto a bill that threatened to spend less than Big Government Bush wanted to squander.

Yes, I'll veto that spending bill right after the U.N. does something about Iran.

Was this bill amended or did it pass as Bush threatened to veto?

There is a difference in my mind as to threaten a veto as presented, but if bill was amended as the President asked for then no veto. Same with the CNN article. Did McCain get the bill through as he wanted? Did the bill pass? Did the President lie and sign it anyway after his threat?

I told my Shrink that I dreamed that Bush Vetoed a Spending Bill and the next thing I knew I was told that I was insane and committed to the State Hospital.

I thought Congress authorized spending not the President.

Only Congress authorized to write and pass laws.

Is this correct

Correct although the president presents a budget of his own. Two thirds of the budget is mandatory and any cuts must come out of the remaining one third. Usually the president gives a budget ceiling and as long as the budget comes in at the ceiling the president usually accepts it. Thats why so far there have been no vetos. The budget has met these guidelines. A 2.9% deficient is actually pretty low as is a 4.7% unemployment. We also have a 3.9 increase in GDP and it is 11 trillion dollars. Its like saying one makes $100 and owes $6 which is a 6% deficient. Your salary increases to $1000 and you increase your debt to $30 and then you have 3% deficient and everyone goes crazy because the deficient has increased from $3 to $30 when as a percentage it has decreased from 6% to 3%. The deficent in 1975 was 6%

The president can only veto that 1/3 of the budget that is not mandatory spending. Mandatory spending is set in law by congress.

Because they have selective hearing.

Perhaps Dubai was the first time you heard him issue the threat of a VETO.

But a number of the folks on this board and in conservative circles that feigned outrage that the *first* time he threatens a VETO was over Dubai, were lying through their damn teeth. He's threatened it many times. never done it, but threatened it. On spending, on stem cell research...

Frankly I'm not impressed people are NOW remembering he's made the threat before so they can mock him. Not when many of the same pretended he'd never done so during the height of Dubai.

HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

Bush, the biggest tax and spender in American history is finally starting to worry about the budget???????

Yeah, right. I'll believe that when I see it.
